A view from the sidelines...

Oftentimes what is hidden in plain site to some, may appear obvious to others. Hiding one's deepest desires may be a way of protecting one's feelings from ill wishing eyes. However, not all can be fooled. Especially those who bother strongly enough to see past the smoke an mirrors  those, who bother to see the truth...

Mevkibe could not have been more happier or proud of herself and her loved ones at the end of a very important day for her - the opening of the community library, which could not have been the success that it was without Can's help. Content with herself, she came to Sanem for a little gossip chit-chat and a little girl talk. She loved her daughters more than life itself, and longed for moments where she could devote all of her attention to them, just them. She knew all too well how important a bond between a mother and child was, to a mother and the child as well...

She knocked on Sanem's door, and asked if she could come in. Though Sanem advised her she would be going to sleep soon, she welcomed her mother and they sat on Sanem's bed. Sanem mentioned that the day was a success and Mevkibe could not deny it. But, through the whole day there was one thing that bothered her the most, more than other things that were all linked to Aysun. Mevkibe revealed to Sanem that Aysun not only insinuated that there was something going on between Sanem and Can and between Leyla and Emre, but she rudely announced it to the community gathered around the library. Mevkibe did not mention that she felt like taking a swing at Aysun when she yelled out that Mevkibe was growing herself two nice grooms for her daughters. No, that one little detail she would keep to herself. But she did wait for Sanem's reaction to her words.

Sanem turned her head away from Mevkibe, then back to her. Though Sanem was an avid storyteller, a liar she was not. She tried to deny it, but biting her lip did her no good. Because Mevkibe understood the answer from the words Sanem did not say. Because her eyes said it all. Her gestures said it all. And the love for Can that spoke from her heart said it all. But Sanem mentioned they were only friends. So Mevkibe decided to take part in Sanem's little charade. She compared Sanem's and Can's friendship to that of Sanem's and Osman's. She could not have been more convinced of her own conviction since Sanem did not even wait two heartbeats to deny the fact that those two frienships were as far away in description as possible.

Sanem kept denying that there was something more than friendship going on between her and Can. Even after Mevkibe told Sanem that a mother's keen eye knows better. To prove her case, Sanem decided to point out as many things as possible. So, they were from two different worlds. So, he had bad habits - some that she disliked. So, he was stubborn, and headstrong above all else. But he did have a good heart... Mevkibe could hardly hold in the amuzement from the fact that her daughter was completely head over heels in love with Can Divit. Sanem was young and inexperienced in love, but Mevkibe was fully aware of her daughter's state of heart. After all, one did not learn to pick up on details as someone's habits or someone's way of thinking if one did not commit oneself to that person. And Sanem not only knew Can's habits and what Can allowed himself to show to the world - she saw through it and noticed his heart. A good heart...

Not far from where they enjoyed their mother-daughter moment, someone else was enjoying their conversation on the other side of the city. Emre had decided to strengthen the bond between him and Can. As they sat together, they recalled the success of Mevkibe's community library. Emre did not spare needless comparisons. He did not beat around the bush, so to speak. He pointed out that the day would not have been the success that it was if it wasn't for Can's help. But Can downplayed his involvement. Emre did not have to look at Can to see what a complete facade it was. So he teased Can further. Wasn't it Can who helped with Mevkibe's election as the head of her community?

Seeing that he was getting nowhere heading in that direction, Emre switched gears. He pointed out that Can and Sanem had grown closer recently. Quite close. Though Can did not deny it, he pointed out that they were friends. Emre didn't blink at that little evasive statement. He also could not help but smile when Can, all by himself, began to speak about Sanem. And, boy, was there a lot to be said. Can mentioned that Sanem saw the world in a different light. She had a keen sharp sight. She noticed things he would never been able to notice himself. That being said, her habits were as sharp and vivid as her sight. And as for her thoughts and way of thinking? Now, that was an endless story and a book in itself in the making. Emre all but applauded his brother, because it was becoming clear that Can obviously did not see certain details. Especially one, whether he saw it and decided not to reveal it or did not see it yet. He was as in love with Sanem as never before for the whole life Emre had known him.

Not willing to reveal too much just yet, Can flipped the conversation on Emre. He realized that he missed the days he enjoyed a brotherly conversation such as this one with his brother. Emre wanted to speak about relationships? Fine. Can would oblidge him. Because the relationship between Emre and Leyla was becoming more and more apparent. Emre denied it, in the best and most amuzing way possible. They were not in love, because, after all, they were just friends. Can could not help but smile himself. He understood Emre's pun. So, it was tit-for-tat? Two could play that game, he thought. So he brought out the fact that Leyla really was a special person, a special girl in Emre's life. She was kind. She was hardworking. Above all, she was goodhearted. Emre paused. He grew quiet. He knew exactly what Can meant. He knew it all too well. He admitted to Can that it was Leyla's good side that reminded him that he once had a good side. And Can told him that he still had one...

As both conversations grew to close, all parties involved realized that what lied in the heart could not be dismissed. And maybe it took another person to point it out. Because a view from the sidelines oftentimes offered a more obvious look than one might have known...
