I'd played out this dreadful scene a thousand times over. Despite the unraveling of my anxious mind, hope had always changed the ending. But hope had lied. Hope had told me there were arms to be wrapped tightly in. There were reason and justice and purpose to believe in. There was to be love, infinite love.
But now?
Now, there was nothing but agony. Gut wrenching and utterly endless agony.
Now, I faced the terrible truth. The terrible truth that my friends had become ghosts and the life I had once lived was nothing more than ash.
Now, my only company was the knowledge of how my life was to end.
There was no striving to be happy. There was no striving to even survive. For everything ended in death and despair, even the most precious thing I'd ever known-
Even him.
