Chapter V

SAVANNA

Talagang pinanindigan ng kapatid ko ang sinabi niya sa akin.

Mabait talaga ang kapatid ko. He always treats me like a princess. Siguro kung hindi kami iniwan ni dad 'non. For sure, we are happy right now. 

Hindi namin alam why left us hanging. Wala talagang goodbye-goodbye. 

Honestly, nagtatampo ako sa kanya. I am a daddy's girl kasi. 

He always defends me from mom. Silly. Nagbibiro lang ako. 

Naalala ko tuloy noong pinagluluto niya ako ng sushi. Bonding din namin 'yun e.

Flashback

"Anak, let's prepare sushi!" my dad told excitedly. "I am coming, dad!" I spoke cheerfully. "Anak, you should roll this, like this" he corrected me. 

"Okay, dad." I said. After a few hours, "Sushi is ready!" we shouted. 

We both laughed. Then, Jeremiah and mom came to the dining room. All of us ate joyfully. "Ang sarap nito, dad and ate!" sambit naman ni Jeremiah. 

"Yes, it is!" my mom agreed and smiled. 

I smiled to that memory. I miss my dad. "Ate, sometimes you should let go of some memories in your life." sulpot naman ng kapatid ko.

 "Nakapagluto ka na ba ng hapunan? Kain tayo" I changed the topic.

 "Yes. Katatapos ko lang magluto. Let's go na ate" yaya niya sa akin.

Habang kumakakain kami, nagsalita siya. "Ate, pinabibigay ng boss mo kanina. Naiwan mo daw." sabi niya sabay bigay ng wallet ko. 

"Hala?" napasabi ko na lang. My first love's picture is inserted there. 

Baka nakita niya? Wait, Vanna. What's the big deal?  

"Thank you, brother." I said. He smiled.

 "Are you happy with him?" he suddenly asked. 

"Huh?" I asked him, confused. "Your boss. " he clarified.

 "Jere, I am happy with my work as a secretary. Nothing more, nothing less. Hanggang doon lang 'yun." I said straightforwardly. 

"Okay. You're too defensive."  he told. Alam kong inaasar ako nito e. But then, may biglang bumagsak na paso doon sa labas. 

"Pusa ba 'yon?" I asked. We went outside but, we saw nothing. 

"Baka nga pusa, ate." he said. I nodded and we went back inside.

Kinabukasan, I am able to work. "Miss Enriquez, kindly give me the folder." he commanded. 

"Yes,-" I'm going to answer him but, he cuts me off. 

"Give me a cup of coffee too." malamig niyang sabi.  

He isn't like this before. I put the coffee on the table. "Meron pa po ba kayong iuutos?" I asked him. "Wala na. " he shortly said. 

My phone suddenly beeped. It was a text from my brother. I opened the message.

From: Jeremiah

Ate, I am in Calle Mariveles. Pinauwi na ako ni mom. Pinapasunod ka. But, I told her you still have work to do.

"Miss Enriquez, someone knocking at the door. Don't use your phone while at work" mariin niyang sabi. 

I opened the door and saw a guy. Hindi ito si Mr. Buencamino. I am sure hindi siya ito.
