Changing of heart

Chapter four

The smell of fresh syrup and pancakes fills my nose making me wake up twice as fast she wander to the kitchen. I spot the young boy fixing pancakes on the stove and I raise my eyebrow shocked at him waking up so early

"Hey honey , what got you up so early?" I ask while taking a look at the yummy pancakes

"I fell asleep early last night. So I'm making breakfast, do you want some?" He flips the pancakes and looks at me

"Oh no thank you , I'm going to make eggs in a bit ." I reply and earn a nod as he sits down and eats his pancakes, plopping in the chair next to him

"I have some news ." I say

"What is it ?" He was Cutting his pancake while asking

"I know how much finding your birth mother  means to you, so I talked to graham about finding any information on her" I hum softly with a smile on my face

"Really mom??" His face bursts I'm excitement making me happy

"Yes henry!" I say and he gives me a big hug , warming my heart

"Thank you mom, I appreciate it" he cleans his plate off smiling

"But Henry , I don't want you getting too excited, I just asked him, that doesn't mean he'll be able to atomically find anything . It might take a bit"

"Can I go see graham for the day? Pleasee" he begs and I give in

"Of course, I'll drop you off before I go to work"

He thanks me and I'm not waiting long before he's running down the stairs dressed and ready for the day , I had been cleaning the kitchen so of course after I finish is my chance to go get changed , slipping on a dark green dress and my casual heels.

"Henry ?have you seen my phone ??" I call out

"Yeah it's down here on the stool ma!" He shouts and I come down the stairs grabbing it as well as my purse

"Okay come on let's go"

We leave and get in the car, it was warmer today out of all the days of the week and I enjoyed that , given most the time you see me I'm wearing a dress. Graham's office/ the station, wasn't far from my house , it was about 10 minutes away so of course we get there in a flash

"Okay henry what are the rules when you're away from me?"

"Keep my phone with me at all times , respond if you call or text , and don't leave without letting you know" he says rolling his eyes

"Don't roll your eyes at your mother. now be safe, I'll pick you up later today" I drop him off watching him leave before driving away .

After a long day of work and going grocery shopping for the basics I pull my phone out to Henry's messages

Mom guess what! Graham found something !

Really? I'm coming to get you and you can tell me all about it

I reply with a nervous look on my face, thinking about who this woman could be, or how our relationship will change if henry meets his 'real' mother. Soon I arrive at the small station and knock on the door seeing Henry's head pop out

"Mom!" He says with excitement filling his voice

"What is it kid ??" I smile and ruffle his hair as he glances back at graham

"Go ahead" he smiles And Henry nods looking back at me in pure joy

"We found the information on my mom!"

"Wow henry .." I pause for a minute before saying "
"That's great" and he nods his head up and down

"I know ! Graham said that we can contact her if it's okay with you?"

His question makes my eyes flick to graham and then back at my handsome son "I don't know henry..we'll have to talk about this later okay?"

"Okay.." I felt bad given the disappointment in his voice , his head hangs as he walks to the car and I follow , thanking graham for watching him.

We drive all the way home and I make him his favorite cocoa, stirring it softly and spraying the whip cream over top , I simply wanted to make him happy, that's all I ever want however I feel closed to the idea of this new stranger just coming into our life's .. I can't imagine how it'll change if she's here .

When I'm in bed thoughts fill my mind , if henry actually does contact her and she's here, how will that change out relationship or affect it. I honestly don't know anything about this birth mother, If she'll even come see him or if she won't even acknowledge having a soon, geez he would be so hurt . Even though he's happy and excited, I can't let his excitement get the best of him and blur reality, because in reality she might not even want to come back into his life, I mean she did him him up and all I know is you must have been in a hell of a bad situation to give a child up. during our cocoa session he had asked me if he could go spend tomorrow with graham so that they can try to contact her , I said yes . After thinking about it , he deserves to try, I got my son too far in excitement to break it now, I just hope their careful.

"Henry come down for breakfast !" I yell and there was no response so I go upstairs peeking my head through the door to see brown hair sticking out of the covers "come on henry wake up" I said again only earning a groan from him

"You have to wake up now if you want to go to graham" and that's all it took for him to bounce out of bed and happily grab his clothes

"Okay mom!" He says and I chuckle going back downstairs to let him change

All I made was cereal so he could come grab the bowl and leave , I already ate my breakfast and was waiting by the door

"Mom?" His voice gets closer and I hear him running down the stairs "can you help me with this?" I look down at the tie around his neck and scrunch my face up

"Why are you wearing that?" I ask

"Graham said that if I look professional I could earn a job at the station weekdays" he says with proudness

I shake my head "no henry, you have school"

"But mom."

"No means no henry now come on before we're late"

We get in the car
