I was born in Italy, moved to Scotland when I was one and moved to the states when I was 3. Still live there now.

Another factor (surprise) was my roommate. She was from Syria and held a prisoner of war for years. While she didn't lose her entire family, I thought I'd add in why Lapis hates water. She came to the states after soldiers freeing the camp and fell for this guy at school who raped her, beat her regularly, etc. she got sick of it and left him. She didn't live with him but did spend a lot of time over there. Also, the reason I don't say the cousin or his husband's names are bc they asked that those be kept discrete which I 100% respect.
