She lay naked on the cold marble bathroom floor, in a foetal position. The chill of the floor is a striking contrast to the hot tears that streamed down her cheeks onto it. She hugged herself, gaining comfort that at least she had someone to hold onto, as she cradled herself. She stayed like this until it was time for her to get up and splash some cold water on her face. She reapplied her make-up, got dressed and went back into the room, smiling at the guests who were sipping on fine wine and the cheese platter she had prepared.
