This scenario is kind of like Groundhog Day, (A) keeps reliving the day of (B)'s death/Execution. (A) tries everything they can to stop it from happening, but (B) ends up dying every day, wether it be the exact same way they died the first time, or from some other cause. What will it cost (A) to actually complete their mission?
