Groggily, I opened my eyes and took in my surroundings. My head throbbed. There was a drip in my left arm and my right arm was in a cast. It no longer smelled like horses and competition, but more like disinfectant. My head was buzzing, like their were thousands of deadly, stinging bees swarming about in my brain. A women walked in to take my temperature, then left again without saying a word. The white gown she was wearing reminded me of the nurse that gave you the needles at the doctors. I started to feel a bit light headed, so I laid back down again. A light triggered in my brain. My breathing started coming in short, shallow, breaths, like I was hyperventilating I was at the hospital! My mum crept into the room with a red face. She had been crying. "Mum," I asked "what happened?"
"Well," she started to sob, "you and Cloudy had a bad fall," she paused, "you broke your arm and Cloudy, well Cloudy..." She then broke off and would not continue.
"Mum," Suddenly, I felt extremely desperate to find out what had happened. I no longer felt any pain at all, except for the growing hole in my heart from not knowing. "What happened to Cloudy?"
