"My college campus has a magic statue.
It's a longstanding tradition for students to
rub it's nose for good luck. My freshman
roommate really believed in the statue's
power and insisted on visiting it to rub
its nose before every exam. Studying
might have been a better idea, she flunked
out her sophomore year. The fact is, we all
have little superstitious things that we do. If
it's not believing in magic statues, it's
avoiding sidewalk cracks or always putting
our left shoe on first. Knock on wood.
Step on a crack, break your mothers back.
The last thing we want to do is offend
the gods. Superstition lies in the space
between what we can control and what we
can't. Find a penny, pick it up, and all day
you'll have good luck. No one wants to
pass up a chance for good luck. But does
saying it thirty three times really help?
Is anyone really listening? And if no
ones listening, why do we bother doing
those strange things at all? We rely on
superstitions because we're smart enough
to know we don't have all the answers. And
that life works in mysterious ways. Don't
diss the juju, from wherever it comes."

Superstition.

The idea that otherworldly energy plays a role in our every day lives. Whether it be karma, cracks on the sidewalk, or surgical fatalities occurring in threes and sevens. Maira Grey believed in 2 out of the 3, so take a lucky guess.

The hospital staff at Seattle Grace hospital had their fair share of superstitions-even if they refused to call them that. Dr Montgomery pinned her wedding ring to the inside of her scrubs, Dr. Burke wore his favorite scrub caps, Dr. Shepard repeated his mantra, and Dr. Bailey prayed. The four all have their own pre-surgery rituals.

Could it really be a coincidence that all four lost their patients that morning?

The morning started out normal as Maira sat in the intern locker room with her friends. Cristina was complaining about George who was still crashing with her and Burke.

"Remind me why you can't just politely ask him to move out?" She asked for what felt like the billionth time.

Cristina glanced over at George across the room where he sat talking with Izzie and Alex. "Because, I'm not the one who invited him to stay so I can't kick him out. Burke has to do it."

Maira rolled her eyes, flicking her gaze to her sister Meredith. She was sitting next to her but seemed lost in thought.

"You okay?"

She just nodded.

"Did you hear that Montgomery, Burke, Shepard, and Bailey lost their patients this morning?" Izzie spoke up loud enough so that everyone could hear. "I talked to a guy down at the morgue and he said they come in threes and sevens. So they'll be three more coming."
