CHAPTER TWENTY

—✰—

"so what actually happened, ms thornton? this isn't nothing" the doctor sighed, JJ and john b sitting next to her as she sat up as the doctor examined her back one last time before she went home.

"i was walking home in the dark from the cut and someone came up behind me and grabbed me, dropped me to the ground and started beating my back with a metal pole that had something really sharp on the end of something and stole my backpack with my purse and stuff" she sighed, telling the lie JJ told her, so they wouldn't get caught for 'trespassing', because if they told the truth the would be in deep shit.

"we'll do our best to find who did this too you, miss thornton. your parents are on their way" shoupe said as he stood behind the doctor, giving JJ a glare before he walked out with the doctor.

"you guys should probably go, before my parents get here, you know?" she sighed

"are you sure?" JJ sighed

"mmh-hmm." she hummed.

"ill see you guys soon" she smiled, all of them individually giving her a soft hug, JJ last.

"i'm sorry for yelling at you. thanks for getting me out of there JJ" she showed a small smile

"you better go" she cut him off as she saw her parents walking down the hall.

"those dirty pogues again, avani! seriously! i thought i warned you to stay away from them!" her dad shouted, closing the hospital room door after JJ exited

"it wasn't them, dad! i was alone and someone jumped me and stole my things!" she lied, it sounding like the truth as she was a good liar.

"for god sakes avani." he mumbled, rubbing his temple.

"your worse than topper! why do you keep getting yourself into these things" her mother groaned, signing the papers to release her.

"first you get shot, them stabbed and attacked! that's what happens when you hang out with the people from the cut, don't you see that! everything's changed for you since you've been with those kids! keep this up and you can go live in the cut" she scoffed

"your gonna kick me out because i'm hanging out with my friends? are you crazy?" she asked

"it's what you deserve if you keep this up! we're trying to do what's best for you, like we always have! you just keep messing things up!" her mother shouted

"wow" she scoffed, mumbling under her breath.

"you are to stay at home and rest. no sneaking out and doing stupid bullshit with your 'friends'. that's final. you understand?!" her dad sternly said

"i said do you understand! yes sir!" he shouted

"yes sir" she said looking away as she was genuinely scared of her father when he was angry. no wonder where topper and her got it from.

the afternoon had came around and avani had locked herself in her room all day as her parents took away her keys so she would stay home and rest.
