Read my lips
She said
Nearing my forehead
For a kiss
"I'll be back no matter what"
I read
As she caressed
The bulge from her dress
Sirens! Sirens!
Biting my nails in..
Silence! Silence!
As her smile disappears
Beyond the horizon
Watching! Waiting!
Never been weighed
Like this weighed my patience
Slow music played
To calm my frustration
Something she ALWAYS said
Would keep my strength from waning
Tears of joy
For the baby boy
I present my tribute
A Soldier toy!
Who held my hand
Through this gruesome toil
As I waited for
The good news in store
He taps my head
His eyes blood red
I bite my lip
On one knee, he said..
Nothing.. absolutely nothing
For the tears he shed
Shackled the message he had
..murmuring.. stuttering
Pummeling his chest..
He squeezed my shoulder
With warm yet flickering strength
She's gone I say! She's gone
All we have left
Is this baby in my arm
He wept
My God!
He wept
And I was..
Short of breath
Was it asthma or a panic attack?
Well, it was brief
For it was grief
Spreading all the way to my sleeves
Weakening my 10 year old knees
The sheer disbelief..
Amplifying
These doubts!
That refused to leave
For she ALWAYS came back!
I never had to worry about
Something like that
I want to see her
"Look, it doesn't have to be.."
I WANT TO SEE!
For there's never gonna be!
A good time
Not for her! Or for me!
I approach her as she sleeps
Plant a kiss on both her cheeks
And told her She'll ALWAYS
ALWAYS be..
A part of the heart
She gave to me.
