The cold wind of December blew through the large cracks of your classroom window, but you remained seated in front of it, staring outside the moonlit track field, enjoying the serene and mystical feel the surroundings carried.

It's way past bedtime and you knew this because even the people who were in charge of being tonight's nightwatch have long since returned to their respective rooms.

You were feeling a little drowsy yourself, if you must admit, and also exhausted because of the supply run earlier that day, but you couldn't bring yourself to sleep because the feeling of dread was stronger and everytime you remember everything that's happened, you jolt awake.

Lawrence requested you to accompany them for the outside search because Sue, who was supposed to go with them, suddenly came down with a high fever.

Although a bit worried by the suddenness of the boy's request, you agreed with the idea of being the replacement since Ethan would be in the team with you and you have become quite attached to him.

You were closer to him more than anyone else in the group and you feel truly safe whenever you're with him.

Everything was fine during the first half of your search. You did not encounter a single zombie since you went out and the store that you decided to visit was full of essentials it was like you struck a goldmine.

You even found a cute cat plushy in one of the shelves that you thought would be a nice "get well soon" gift for Sue.

The problem came by when you started heading back and met another group of survivors by sheer chance.

Their small team consisted of teenagers your age and you learned, after a brief moment of introduction, that they were taking shelter at the convention center near the highway far from your school.

It was fine at first. After all, seeing another group of people who were unscathed and very much alive is a rare occurrence in your current situation. But the happiness you felt quickly turned sour when a tall girl with medium length light brown hair and emerald green eyes approached Ethan with an all too wide smile on her face.

She seemed very much happy and relieved to see him, while the boy, on the other hand, had a look of shock on him as he tried to figure out who the girl was.

"Ethan, it's me! (R/G)!" she spoke happily before embracing him tightly.

Her sudden actions took you, and everyone else, by surprise and you could only look at the the boy for an explanation since your mind went blank instantaneously.

He locked eyes with you momentarily before shifting his gaze towards the girl who has by then released him from her grip and he smiled at her softly.

"Sorry. I didn't recognise you immediately because your hair is longer." he spoke with the same gentle tone that he uses when speaking with you and you knew right away that he was close to her - maybe a bit too close.

The girl giggled and talked a little bit more, allowing you to learn that she was someone Ethan became romantically interested in before things started spiralling into chaos.

While they were talking, the supposed leader of the other group approached you and gave you a jacket that he took out of his backpack.

"You look cold. Take this." he spoke with a gentleness rivalling Lawrence's when he noticed that you unconsciously wrapped your arms around yourself, but you couldn't be bothered to react nor respond since your attention was on Ethan.

You settled with offering the boy a soft smile that he so gladly returned before he walked away and called his group's attention.

He then proceeded to instruct everyone to regain focus and told them that they need to return soon since it was getting late and the sun was slowly sinking into the horizon.
