Mini A/N – Hey guys! Cher, here. First, this chapter is REALLY short (but that just means the next chapter will probably be here faster). Second, I have one question. Are you guys cool with the speed I post new chapters? Or would you prefer if I made a schedule? Like...every Wednesday or Sunday. Let me know what you guys think! Enjoy the chapter, and don't forget to comment, vote, and follow me for more stories to come! Love ya 😚

To say that the drive back to your mom's penthouse was awkward would be an understatement. The tension in the air was so thick that you could barely breathe. Your mom had seemed to notice the mood in the air around you and Jasper pretty quickly, so she was the one that ended up driving that night. It was nine seventeen, Sunday morning, the day after the Fourth of July. Jasper hadn't slept in the same room as you and Kehlani, and neither did Millie. You couldn't blame her, though. She had every right to be upset. You had lied to her to save your own neck and the neck of your friends. And speaking of friends... What were you going to do about Kehlani? One of your best friends accused one of your other best friends of spiking Jasper's drink. ViVi made some solid points, but would Kehlani actually do something like that? You sighed heavily, putting your mug back to your lips again. You had made a pot of coffee earlier and were now shamelessly on your third cup. The caffeine didn't seem to be having any kind of effect on your body, and that didn't necessarily please you. You turned around on the barstool you were sitting on, leaning your elbows back against the kitchen island. You exhaled slowly, running your fingers through your (h/l) hair. You cracked your (e/c) eyes open just for them to meet with Jasper's fierce amber ones. You quickly averted your gaze, looking down at your lap, twiddling your fingers. You heard the cabinet open and close, the sound of liquid being poured infiltrating your ears next. You chewed on your bottom lip, sliding off of the barstool. You made your way back into the bedroom, sniffing as your eyes began to get misty again. Seriously (y/n)...why so emotional? You went into the bathroom, completely ignoring the 'good morning' that passed Kehlani's lips. You shut the door, locking it behind you as you leaned against the wood. You rubbed at your tired eyes, moving forward to turn on the shower water. The faster I can get out of this house, the better.

*time skip brought to you by negative tension*

You pulled into your mini driveway next to Kehlani's car, turning off the engine. You take your keys from the ignition, pushing your door open. The entire car ride back to Beach City had been quiet, except for the occasional meow from Storm. You shut the driver's side door, moving to the back of the car to unlock the trunk. You pulled out your own suitcase, leaving the lid open for Jasper and Kehlani. Walking up onto your porch, you fiddled with your keys to find the one to unlock the front door. A shadow was cast over your body and the door, and you swallowed slightly, knowing it was Jasper. Your fingers trembled as you continued to fiddle with your keys, finally getting the right one into the door. Geez... You twisted the knob, pushing against the door and going inside. You put your suitcase down next to the couch, tossing your keys onto the coffee table. You turned, making eye contact with Jasper again before she disappeared upstairs. You blushed slightly, looking down at your feet as Kehlani came in, closing the door behind her. Millie ran up the stairs after Storm and into Jasper's room as soon as Kehlani put her down. You leaned against the couch as your best friend put her things down. She was about to make her way up the stairs as well, but you stopped her by calling her name. "We need to talk," you said, crossing your arms. Kehlani leaned against the kitchen island, looking up at you. You glanced up the stairs, making sure Jasper and Millie weren't coming back down. "I know what you did at the cocktail party last night. And only God knows how badly I want you to prove me wrong—so please...tell me the truth." She averted her dark brown eyes from your (e/c) ones, rubbing her right arm. A nervous tick of hers whenever she was stressed or thinking deeply. "Kehlani," you said warningly, closing your eyes for a moment. "I said don't lie to me. I want the truth and the whole truth."
