chapter fourteen

"hey y/n"

i stood for a few moments frozen with my hand up to his face, waiting for my body to register what my mind was processing. i stepped back as i tried to catch my breath and form words at the same time. i stuttered as i tried to think of anything i could say that would suffice how i felt.

"george." i repeated as it was the only thing i could make out. i stepped back into him, tears forming in my eyes. they started falling when he wrapped his arms around my back. he put his hand on my cheek as i looked up at him

"y/n don't cry!" he said as he chuckled, wiping the tears from my face. i looked into his eyes and blinked a few times to make sure this was actually real.

"how are you here? when did you? where?" i stumbled over my words, still shocked by the boy standing in front of me, trapped in my arms.

"its a long story." he said to me. we stayed together for a few more minutes, just enjoying each others presence before we remembered everyone back at the house. george helped me carry my bags out to the car. i sat in the passenger seat on the way to the house as he told me the whole story.

"i do not believe EVERYONE was in on this. how did they all stay quiet?" i said to him as the gps told us to turn right.

"believe me, i didn't think they would make it two days without telling you let alone never telling you at all." he replied as we pulled into the driveway of the house. it was huge. from what i could see there were definitely more than 5 bedrooms as well as a pool and lounge area in the backyard. i prepared myself to see all my friends in one place for the first time. george quietly opened up the door with his key and i walked into the living room. i put a finger over my mouth in an attempt to shush clay and val as i walked up behind bella and put my hands over her eyes.

"ELEANOR not again last time you did this it took me like two minutes to guess who you were." she said as she took my hands off of her face and turned around to look at me. she gasped and screamed eleanors name.

"Y/N OH MY GOD." jumped over the couch and gave me a big hug. i heard the sound of a gasp behind me as eleanor ran to join the hug as well. suddenly we were joined by tommy and clay. val was the last one to join, pulling george in with her.

"this feels oddly familiar..." george said as the rest of our friends began to laugh hysterically. once the hug broke up i went upstairs to find my room and chose the one in between val and george. we still had about four hours before we were going to surprise nick. during two and a half of the four hours, we just sat in the living room and talked. we shared life stories and anything we could think of. it felt as if i had known these people my whole life. we left the last hour and a half to get ready for the party. clay left to hang out with nick alone like nick originally thought as we all got ready. val, eleanor, bella and i all gathered in my room since it had the biggest mirror. i grabbed the strawberry dress from my bag and held it up receiving squeals and nods of approval from my friends. i walked into the bathroom that connected mine and george's room to change into it. as i was finishing tying the strings he knocked on the door.

"come in! I'm almost done." i said as he opened the door. he stopped for a moment as he looked at me. i began to blush as i looked down at myself, wondering if something was tied wrong or if i looked weird in the dress.

"wow. you look," he paused as he breathed out, "incredible." i felt the blush on my cheeks intensify as i finished tying the last string.

"why thank you," i said as i mockingly gave a curtsey and smiled at him, "I'll let you get changed." i closed the door as i walked out of the bathroom as i saw my friend fixing their hair or makeup. once everyone was finished we had about forty five minutes left to set up. we grabbed the snacks and drinks and set them up on the table, keeping the cake in the fridge for now. we all grabbed our presents and put them on a separate table. a few minutes later we got the text that clay was on his way with nick. we turned down the lights and all walked over to the couches to hide. we saw headlights flashing in the window and ducked down. we all tried not to laugh as we heard voices from the hall.
