aang was there, sleeping next to katara, sokka and toph in a field.

'AANG!' i shouted, but he couldn't hear me.

i walked towards them, feeling the wind rush past me, getting stronger every second.

'SOKKA'

he opened his eyes, feeling the wind around him worsen.

i felt tears stream down my cheeks as i rushed towards him through the grass.

he looked straight at me and stood up, 'y/n?'

then, a burst of wind caught him and he fell to the ground.

i ran to his side and stopped him from hitting the floor.

'SOKKA YOU'RE HERE'

he looked around, knowing he was floating.

'y/n is that you?'

i chuckled and held him tightly, crying, 'you're okay'

i looked down at myself and i seemed to be glowing a dim blue.

'you're... alive?'

suddenly, aang woke up and looked straight at me.

then at sokka, who was still floating.

i placed him back down on the floor and went to aang.

'y/ns here' whispered sokka, pointing at me.

but he couldn't see me.

'aang?' i said, reaching for him.

but my hand went straight through him and the wind got even stronger.

i fell backwards and woke up in my bed, sweating like anything.

i screamed and scrambled back, falling off the edge.

they were alive.

'Y/N' shouted a voice, opening the door and sprinting in.

zuko.

'why are you on the floor?'

he held out his hand and helped me up.

'spirits, don't remind me' i said, laughing nervously.

'bad dream?' he asked, looking out the window.

i sighed and jumped on my bed, facing the ceiling, 'how can you tell.'

he laughed and lay beside me, his hair falling out of the bun a bit.

with every passing second i felt i had to tell him i could air bend again.

but i didnt.

i couldn't risk anyone else hearing.

'you sure you're okay?' he asked, taking my hand.

i must've zoned out, 'never been better'

really convincing, well done y/n.

he stood up and held his hand out to me, 'come on, let's go find something to do.'

i followed him out and we made our way to their library.

where mai was.

'ugh zuko, if y/n wanted to read she'd probably tell you.'

'thanks for your input,' he replied as he rolled his eyes and led me to a back room.

'oh so we're gonna-'

'no.' he said flatly, opening a cabinet and taking what looked like a box out.

'you want to do a... jigsaw?' i asked as he set it down, 'we could do something else you know, im sure there's lots to do in this giant palace'

he patted the seat next to him, 'we'll be fine'

i sighed and sat next to him.

he poured the puzzle pieces out onto the table and showed me the image on the front.

it was of a battle that if taken part in.

and i was in the picture.

it showed the air nomads fighting against the fire nation army, me leading the way.

'is this a propaganda jigsaw?' i asked, 'is that what we're making'

he looked to the side, almost as if he wasn't sure what he'd done was right.

'i guess it is.'

'sounds fun'

---

after we'd finished about half of the puzzle we paused for a break.

'thing is, i know this is supposed to make me look like a bad person, but i think i just look cool'

he smiled and nodded, 'yeah, you look great.'

'wow cheers zuko, it's great to know that you think that jigsaw me looks "great"'

'it's great to know you agree' he replied, beaming.

i shook my head and we carried on.

'did they give the nomads... swords?' i said, placing down a piece.

zuko looked confused, 'they didn't have them?'

'no? they're nomads?' i replied, 'or were peaceful people not documented in fire nation history?'

he thought for a moment and went back to the puzzle.

well that's worrying.

---

'so are we framing this or destroying all our hard work' i said, as we stood around it, looking down at the table.

'what, burn it?' he asked, producing flames from his hand.

'as much fun as that sounds,' i began, putting out his hand, 'we're in a library full of flammable books'

'oh'

i laughed, 'just put it in the box'

we put it away back on the shelf and began to walk out before ty lee appeared at the door.

'azulas looking for you two' she said, cartwheeling towards us.

me and zuko shared worried looks before he answered, 'what does she want'

'she just needs to tell you something'

she ran up to me and hugged me, then sprinted away down the hall.

i took zukos hand and we made our way to the gardens (which was where he said azula was most likely to be).

'zuzu, y/n, so glad you could join us!' she said, gesturing for us to sit down next to where mai was.

ty lee bounded into the garden and sat next to mai, 'sorry im late!'

azula rolled her eyes and stood up, 'so, we are going to ember island to stay with lu and li this weekend because father said so'

zuko scoffed, 'fine'

'i expect you to be packed and ready by tomorrow morning, without delay'

she motioned for us to leave and we dispersed through the halls.

'i think ive been there before.' i said, rounding a corner with my head on zukos shoulder.

'yeah, it's nice i guess. we used to go there every summer when we were kids' he said, stopping at my room.

'ill see you in a bit' i said, kissing his cheek and closing the door behind me.

this was exactly the distraction i needed to escape.

this time next week id be with my friends - i knew i would.
