The hunters piled into the Impala. Winchesters in front, angel in the back. Dean let out an exasperated sigh as they pulled away from their parking spot on the curb. "Listen Cas, Sam and I really need this break. Before you say anything, yes, I know we need to figure out how much of Jack's soul is left. But just a simple demon hunt would be nice. Even a small win would be pretty nice right now."

Reluctantly, Castiel nodded. "I understand, Dean."

They were silent until they got back to the hotel.

In an attempt to break the tension, Sam asked, "So why do you think the demon decided to attack Lucas's family, of all people?"

Castiel stopped in his tracks, frowning. "Wait, you two didn't know?"

The Winchesters glanced at each other, then back at the angel. "Cas, what are you talking about?" Sam asked a bit wearily.

"Lucas Crowe is a nephilim," Castiel said matter-of-factly.

"WHAT?" Dean and Sam yelled at the same time.

Castiel looked taken aback. "I assumed you two knew," he said nonchalantly.

"Well, which angel is the parent, do you know?" Sam asked hurriedly.

The angel hung his head and crossed his arms with a sigh. Dean's eyes widened almost fearfully. "He - he's not... yours, is he?"

Cas's head shot up. "Mine? No, no. Definitely not."

Dean looked relieved as Sam snapped, "Then who's the parent?"

"Lucas is the nephilim son of Michael."

Sam's head snapped to Dean, who was staring at the angel in shock. Sam stuttered, "Dean? Did - did you..."

Cas shook his head before the older Winchester could say anything. "Sam, I'm talking about our Michael. In the Cage. He sired Lucas a few years before the Apocalypse. The only reason Lucas doesn't know is because Michael locked away his powers before he was born so that he would be safer."

"Well, we have to tell him!" Sam exclaimed. "We've gotta take him back to the bunker, introduce him to Jack, show him how to use his powers!"

Dean slumped onto the bed, trying to take in the fact that there was another archangel nephilim while Cas seethed, "No Sam, you don't understand. Unless you have an archangel up your sleeve, we won't be able to get Lucas's powers to work. And he's survived this long without them."

Sam opened his mouth to protest, but Dean interrupted him. "The world is different now Cas. Sure, it was safer for Lucas to be normal when he was born, but not now. We could go talk to our Michael in Hell.. Explain to him what's happened recently with his evil doppelganger. Try and convince him that Lucas needs his powers to survive."

Castiel considered that. After a minute, he sighed, "I suppose that could work-"

"Or we could just... y'know, ask Chuck," Sam sugguested.

"And what makes you think Go-Chuck would care, or even listen?" Cas snapped. "No, I believe we should go with Dean's idea. Michael is our best option"
