Jaemin woke up with pain blooming all over his body. He grit his teeth as a painful moan slipped from his mouth. Tears immediately sprung to his eyes as he continued to wake up, the pain becoming sharper.

He stumbled out of bed with a raging headache and pain almost making it impossible to move properly to the bathroom. He winced even more as his clothed feet came into contact with his bathroom tiles, the cold forcing it's way through the thin fabric to clench to his sole.

Jaemin let out a small grumble as he flicked the light on and looked into the mirror, his hand immediately moving up to touch the black and blue bruise on his chin. He then moved to slip his shirt off from over his head, turning to the side and to the back to see if any more had formed. Luckily, there was only a small bruise on his waist so it wasn't bad enough where he needed to bandage.

Then he moved to slid his sweatpants down, carefully inspecting his legs. No bruises, but his foot hurt like hell and he prayed that it wasn't broken as he tugged his sock off. Only red. No odd angles or swollen toes. So that was good.

He let out a small sigh of relief as he walked back into his room, the carpet welcoming to his now bare feet as he went to get ready for the day. He looked through his closet and slowly picked out a pair of jeans to go with a pink hoodie that his friend Donghyuck had bought him.

After getting himself and his school bag ready he walked back into the bathroom to pull out a worn pouch of makeup. He inspected the bruise before pulling out conceler and foundation. Carefully applying, his experienced fingers brushed the powder and liquid over his skin until it covered the mark entirely.

He washed his hands quickly and turned the light off, grabbing his bag as he walked into his small kitchen. He scrunched his nose up as he looked through the almost empty fridge and cabinets. He would need to see if he could get more food this weekend.

Frowning, Jaemin opened the fridge to grab one of the remaining apples and popped it into his mouth, shutting the metal door. He would just text Donghyuck to pick him up something.

After texting the older boy he shoved his phone into his pocket and bit down on his breakfast as he walked to the front door, tugging on his sneakers with his free hand. It was harder than expected but in no time Jaemin was locking and shutting the door behind him, making his way down the outdoor stairs of the small apartment complex he had now lived in for an entire year.

Strolling down the street - his backpack nestled against his back - he smiled at the bright sun enveloping the city with a warm glow. He looked around to see people passing for work, people passing for coffee, people passing for school.

School.

Jaemin tugged his phone out of his pocket and looked at the time. He was behind schedule. He let out a small noise of distress before shoving his phone into his sweater sleeve and tossing his apple core into a nearby trash bin. He easily jogged down the street until the school came into sight, Jaemin sighing in relief as he saw his best friend standing by the school steps.

"Jaems, what the fuck?" Donghyuck called out with a smile on his face and Jaemin pouted playfully as he took the paper bag out of Donghyuck's hands.

"Sorry, sorry I know I'm late but-" Jaemin looked inside the bag and then look back up at Donghyuck with his eyebrows raised, "-I'll split this donut with you."

"Deal," was all that Donghyuck replied and the other threw his arm around Jaemin's shoulder, the duo heading into the school. The normal sounds of side conversation drifted in and out of Jaemin's ears as he walked with Donghyuck to their first class.

"-and so I saw Jeno with the same fucking paper cut and I'm telling you they're fucking soulmates," Donghyuck chewed on his half of the donut as he ranted, Jaemin making disgusted faces as the older talked with his mouth open.

"Yeah okay okay, just shut your mouth. Say it don't spray it," Jaemin ducked as a fist came flying towards him. He let out a cry of protest as Donghyuck swung at him again. "Hey, hey! You know I'm not trying to get hurt! My soulmate, my soulmate Hyuck!"

"Oh come on! Don't use that lame excuse on me! You don't have a soulmate!" Donghyuck yelled in protest and Jaemin began to dance around as Donghyuck playful tried to land a jab on him, laughter erupting from the two boy's lips as they continued to mess around.

The hallways thinned out and the duo just burst into their room as the bell rang, the teacher fixing a cross glare on them over the top of her glasses.

"Boys how many time do I have to tell you not to be late to my class." She scolded and Jaemin bowed in apology, forcing Donghyuck's head down next to him. Donghyuck let out a pained cry of protest but Jaemin just kicked him in the shin.

"Yes Ms. Han, we're very sorry. It won't happen again!"

Snickers filled the classroom as the two boys headed to their spots. It was the same thing that Jaemin had been saying every single day for the past week that they had been in school.

"Alright class, before we begin our lesson for today I want to warn you that you have a test coming up on this topic Wednesday. That's two days from now and plenty of time to review the material."

And so the lesson droned on and on and Jaemin found himself nodding in and out on consciousness. It was too early to be dealing with mathematics. He could just barely stay awake long enough to see that Donghyuck was doing the same thing; except that he had given up being inconspicuous a long time ago and was leaned back in his seat with his head tilted towards the ceiling.

Suddenly a knock came at the door, both Jaemin and Donghyuck jerking awake at the same time, the older wiping drool away from his mouth. Both of their eyes widened as they saw an upperclassman leaning against the door frame, looking carelessly through the classroom.

"I'm sorry can I-" the teacher started, a bit stiffed from having her class interrupted by a student, but the boy cut her off and pointed to a boy sitting on the other side of the class.

"Huang Renjun, let's go."

The boy's voice was clear and stern, the called student groaning and sitting up in his seat.

"What the hell Mark, I told you not to come to my class," the boy complained and Jaemin just barely recalled who the boy was, not exactly invested into his other classmates' lives.

"What the hell is going on?" Donghyuck whispered and Jaemin shrugged, shaking his head as he joined the entire class in watching the events unfold in front of them.

"Excuse me boys, you cannot just barge into my class and leave before the bell dismisses you!" The teacher protested coldly, her back stiff and a piece of chalk poised carefully between her fingers.

The boy, Mark if Jaemin remembered correctly, rolled his eyes and walked back out of the door without another word, Renjun following behind the older boy without a second glance at his teacher.

The class was stunned into silence.

"Well I never," the teacher muttered softly and frowned, a student then speaking up from the middle of the class.

"Ms. Han, that was just Mark Lee. He's known for being a trouble maker."
