"Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck," Jaemin hissed as he clutched his knee, hand resting on the edge of the counter that he had banged his leg on while trying to find a spare flashlight in the pitch darkness.
He stumbled in the dark towards where he thought the drawer was. The snow storm raging outside wasn't helping illuminate the space and Jaemin grumbled unhappily as he fumbled around. After much trial and error, a small beam of light was flashing around his small apartment space as he looked around.
"Shit," Jaemin cursed as he looked at the non-functioning lights, wondering how badly this was going to end up affecting him. Hopefully they would have the lights up soon and he wouldn't have to worry much. But there was still a chance this could take longer than a day or night and Jaemin would be stranded with little to no money to find a new place to stay.
He ran a stressed hand through his pink hair and sighed, walking to his room to check the online updates. He turned his phone on, sitting dejectedly on his bed and winced at the harsh light. He scrolled through the news outlets, the only news being that the power went out and not when or if it was being fixed.
Jaemin threw his phone down on his bed and threw himself back onto the soft comforter. He rested his arms over his head and lay in the complete darkness, his flashlight already turned off for conservation.
A knocking at the door made Jaemin jump and his hand clenched around the flashlight, clicking it on as he stood up. Carefully making his way to the front door he opened it, sighing before beckoning the taller boy inside.
"This is kind of shit isn't it?" Jisung laughed and Jaemin joined in, two beams of light flashing around the room as they walked over to sit on the couch.
"You think it's going to be fixed soon?" Jaemin asked as they sat down, shivering from the cold beginning to seep through the cheap walls, no heating system working to fend it off.
"I don't know," Jisung said truthfully and gave Jaemin a sympathetic look, "Listen I already had someone set up just in case we lose power for more than a day or two. Do you have anyone?"
The one question hit Jaemin a bit harder than he would like to admit. No. He didn't have anyone. His brother hadn't spoken to him since he had come to visit although Jaemin had seen him driving around town. He didn't have any friends he completely trusted, only Mark having known the most about him but even then not everything. No relatives to talk to after his parent's had disowned him.
His parents.
Jaemin felt bitter resentment and he shook his head. "No, I don't have anyone but I'm sure that I could find some place temporary to stay if need be." Jisung frowned, opening his mouth to speak, but was promptly cut off by a furious banging at the door.
Jaemin started, wondering who on earth would be pounding away at his door in the middle of a snow storm but his heart dropped as one person popped into mind.
Only one person he knew would be insane enough to brave a fucking snow storm to come to his apartment.
Jaemin stood up and practically sprinted to the door, ripping the old and rusty entryway open before his hand grabbed the boy's coat and pulled him inside. Jaemin shut the door before whirling around, pointing a threatening figure at the older boy who was dusting snow from his winter clothing.
"Mark Lee I swear to god-" Jaemin started but Mark reached out and grabbed Jaemin's finger, pulling it down and away from his face. He couldn't see the older boy's face very well, Jisung beam of light providing very little light on the dark room.
"I think you're forgetting that we can feel each other's pain," Mark said pointedly and he moved towards Jaemin to touch his kneecap to the others, "I'm allowed to get worried, especially if I can feel your pain."
Jaemin felt his face heat up and he shook Mark's grasp around his finger, pointing his flashlight towards the ceiling to get more light shining on the room. He watched a little warily as Mark tugged his hat off, revealing messy hair, and began to remove the rest of his outerwear. "Sorry." he said and Mark's head shot up, Jaemin just managing to see a confused look on the older's face.
"Don't apologize Nana, my sister also told me that the power down here had gone out so I wanted to make sure you were okay and didn't need some kind of medical attention," Mark explained but Jaemin only just managed to hear the words as his brain focused on the pet name.
"Nana?"
Both boy's attention turned towards the youngest of the group who was standing by the couch with his mouth open, staring with wide eyes between the two boys. Jaemin felt his face flush and he covered it with his hands, not wanting to look at either of them and definetly not wanting them to see his flustered condition.
"O-oh," Mark realized what he had said and Jaemin looked up through his fingers, the older rubbing his neck awkwardly, "Sorry, I guess it just slipped out after hearing JiJi say it so much." Jaemin rubbed his face and shook his head.
"No that's okay, it's fine," he managed to get out and ran a hand through his hair, sighing as he surveyed the room and then turned to look out the window. "I don't know how long this is supposed to last and I'm not sure when we'll get any update on the power situation." Jaemin looked back towards Mark who was now hanging his winter stuff on the standing hanger Jaemin had. "I'm not sure what your plan is exactly."
"Well," Mark started and looked back and forth between the two boys before settling his gaze on Jaemin, "I'm going to hang around and then if the power doesn't end up coming on for another day or two you can stay at my place."
Jaemin startled and so did Jisung, both looking in surprised at the brown-haired boy.
"Oh, uh, I don't want to disturb your family and I mean," Jaemin was struggling to find some sturdy excuse, still taken aback by the firm offer.
"No don't worry, I asked my parents and they said it would be fine with them. Plus," Mark made his way over to the couch and plopped down, "I know JiJi would love having you around." Jaemin felt his face warm and he ruffled the hair on the back of his head with one hand, watching as Jisung sat back down.
"Well," Jaemin said, looking between the two boys who were looking over at him. He sighed and laughed. "I'm sure I have a deck of cards somewhere."
