Mark sat in his seat, drumming his pencil disinterestedly against the surface of his desk as the teacher in the front of the classroom droned on uselessly about some science topic. His mind wasn't in the lesson, especially when it was the last period of the day and his mind was predominently focused on Jaemin.
He bit his lip in an anxious tick he formed, wondering what exactly had caused the boy to become so hysterically upset. He had come to the conclusion that it was because Renjun had mentioned the injury that he had, but why was that some secret? Mark's stomach flipped and he resisted the urge to smack his forehead.
Right.
That injury had been from him, Jaemin's soulmate.
Mark grit his teeth. He should have remembered that and steered the conversation away from their first meeting, but his mind had been too busy with keeping his reputation in tact that he hadn't been thinking straight.
But something also told Mark that Jaemin hadn't just been stressed about people finding out about his soulmate, he could have just played it off as an injury related to like falling down or something.
His mind drifted to the important fact that Jaemin lived in a small apartment by himself. That should have something to do with it too. So the fact that Jaemin worked at the daycare and that he lived alone should lead to the fact that he needed the daycare income to pay for the rent of the house. Unless his parents were paying for the apartment.
But then what was his relationship with his parents?
Mark shook his head, supressing a frustrated groan as he frowned at the pencil tapping on the edge of his desk. He would have to ask the boy later when he went to his house. Mark of course, seeing the state of the distressed boy, had told Jaemin that he would go to his house after his daycare shift. Jaemin had then told him it was one of his rare days off so he could just come over after school.
The bell to dismiss class rang and Mark jolted out of his thoughts, throwing his pencil and his empty notebook into his bag before zipping it up and standing up. He threw his bag over his shoulder and moved to the door, most students already having left in a hurry.
Someone stepped in front of him and Mark looked down in annoyance, raising his eyebrow threateningly. He did not want to deal with this today. A student that he had never seen before was standing in front of him with his arms crossed, smirking like he was so much better than Mark. It made his blood boil, his mind too preoccupied with helping Jaemin than to have the time to handle this.
"Move out of my way before I remove you," Mark growled lowly, sending the boy the most vicious glare he could, smirking when he saw the boy's knees shake.
"I'll be out of your way soon, I just want to know your relationship with that underclassmen, Na Jaemin? I saw you run out of the cafeteria after he did, seems like something might be going on between you two," The boy raised his eyebrows condencendingly and Mark rolled his eyes, pushing past the kid.
"It's none of your business," he remarked and moved to the door, promptly stopped by a rough hand grabbing his sleeve, digging his nails into his arm, and pulling him back. His arm twinged from the harsh, nail-scratching grab and his mind whirled to the fact that Jaemin must have felt that too, his eyes flashing with anger. He dropped his bag to the ground, his thoughts beginning to muddle regardless of the fact that his mind was screaming not to do this right now.
