"Heya!"  someone called out to Jessica Aidoo. Jessica looked back and scanned the crowd of students from all over the country moving about, and finally caught the waving hand at her. She quickly recognized her- Isobelle Amopofo from Achimota SHS.

"Hello," Jessica said politely, waiting as Isobelle hurried to catch up with her.

"How are you doing?" Isobelle, a warm smile plastered on her face, asked.

"I'm good," Jessica answered. "Yourself?"

"I'm alive."

As Isobelle caught up with her, they both walked together, heading for the school's canteen, since it was snack break.

"So how was your morning session?" Isobelle asked Jessica.

"Very fine." She replied. "And yours?"

"Mmm..." She ran the tip of her tongue over her lips. "Not bad. You see, Business course is not as interesting as Science."

That made Jessica laugh. "Do you really think so?"

"Oh yes. You science students are always pampered.
Take the National Science and Maths Quiz, for example. Do we have any kind of 'National Visual Arts Quiz'?"

"Isobelle, you're funny." Jessica slapped her mildly on her back. She agreed with Isobelle though.

Isobelle continued. "And even here, I heard that at the end of the programme all the science students will write some exams, and the winner will gain a full-time scholarship to a medical or engineering course in KNUST plus a full one month relaxation abroad...err, New York City, I think."

Jessica was dumbfounded.

"Really???" She cooed. Damn, this is too good, she thought.

"Oh yes!" Isobelle returned. "So you'll contest for your school with that rich bitch, won't you?"

Rich bitch?

"Who is a rich bitch?" Jessica asked, curious.

Isobelle smirked. "Oh, you don't know? Nana Yaa, of course. Rich bitch, that girl. She's such an airhead."

The contempt in her voice made Jessica study her carefully.

"You don't like Nana Yaa?"

Isobelle merely scoffed. "Who does? She's so full of herself, rude and not friendly."

"You don't like Nana Yaa." Jessica said slowly, spacing out the words.

"Do you?" Isobelle asked.

Like Nana Yaa?? "You've got to be kidding me. Never!" She had many reasons to hate Nana Yaa. The stupid girl had everything; beauty, money, brains. Academically, Nana Yaa was her rival. She was the overall best science student in school, and Nana Yaa came second. Not to talk about her pride and rude attitude. "She has no friends," Jessica continued. "She claims her mama is her bestie. Can you beat that?"

"Didn't know she was silly too." Isobelle scoffed again. "How the hell can your mom be your best friend?"

"I wonder, sis, I wonder." Jessica agreed. "She allows no one in her circle. She thinks friends are people who just waste your time for nothing...she thinks many stupid things about friendship that I can't even keep up."

"Does she have a boyfriend?"

Jessica slanted her a sly look. "Boyfriend? The girl has no friends. What is it with a boyfriend? What would she do with him? No, she doesn't."

"Such a fine girl with no boyfriend." Isobelle taunted. "It's a shame."

"Well, she says her parents can provide her with anything she needs, so there is no need for her to have a boyfriend."

"She's even sillier than I thought. Well, her dad will provide all her needs, and fuck her too."

Jessica gasped at the raw language. "Isobelle!"

"Yeah, that's what she means." Isobelle rolled her eyes.

"Well..." Jessica lowered her lashes. "I also don't have a boyfriend."

That made Isobelle stop walking to look at Jessica from head to toe. Automatically, Jessica halted too.

"What?" Isobelle blurted out. "I mean...so how do you survive? Like how do you quench your feelings?"

"I abstain." Jessica said quietly, making Isobelle roar with laughter.

"Abstinence my foot!" She said. "Hey lady, you fuck when you feel like fucking, okay? You feel me?"

Jessica admitted she was thrilled at Isobelle's sense of adventure, her carefree spirit. "Really?"

"Yeah." Isobelle reached out to hold Jessica's hand. She pulled her to the canteen, now just before them. "C'mon girl, I'd get you a guy soon. A delicious guy. And he'll be fucking you senseless every single night."

Jessica's insides lurched with excitement. "All right!"

***Hey guys, so you just met Jessica and Isobelle.

I think Jessica was right about something, though.

Friends are not just people who waste your time. They're people who are there for you, day and night. They're part of you. See, this is Nana Yaa's weakness. She allows no one to be her friend.

And anyway, have any of you met anyone like Isobelle? The kind that are carefree and adventurous?
Stay on... this is just the beginning!
