11:16, the time of death

The whole world held its breath, watching their seemingly untouchable monarch fall at the hands of their savior Zero, crumpling in a bloody heap at the bottom of a gold lined float, his very breath slowing as his life ebbed away.

Lelouch gazed up at the clear, blue sky, the same one which had witnessed his defeats, his victories, his joys and sorrows, his fears and triumphs, his sins and virtues.

He drew in a shuddering breath.

He thought of C.C., and wished she were here, ignorant as she always was, to place a kiss on his lips and flounce away.

Lelouch let out a shaking exhale.

He supposed this was it, wasn't it?

Everything he'd ever wanted, thrown away.

Lelouch smiled, his eyes closing.

He was able to see his beloved sister one last time.

And die in her arms, no less.

Lelouch watched as the black fully took over his vision.

He wished he could keep his promises to Rivalz, and Milly, and Kallen.

Slowly, he drew a breath.

He could hardly feel the cold air brushing against his lips.

Slower, Lelouch let out one,

final,

exhale.

It was such a beautiful day to die.

All around him, people cheered.
