HUMANITY
Humanity can be used to mean human beings collectively. The humanity I will be talking about is the value of being human or benevolence. Not every human being has the quality of humanity and those who possess this value do not even realize it only those who are shown the characteristics by others can recognize it.
Humanity is a part of the soul,
That a true holder,
Never knows when expressing,
The quality of it to the recipient, we
Proofed so many times,
By the selfless actions undertaken,
It glows in the hearts of the onlookers,
Tears flow in some faces,
Not of sadness or worry,
Grateful is the emotion,
Towards those who have given

Humanity is a part of the soul,
I have never understood the psychology,
Or the characteristics of its form,
Yet the feeling is always unmistakable,
Am always proud to see,
The foundation of Africa’s culture,
Being expressed even if forgotten,

The quality of humanity is pure. We express it without requiring anything from it. The importance of having this value is only known by the receiver of the gesture. Humanity is when you find someone stuck on the road at night and you stop your car to help them. It does not mean you do not have a more worthwhile place to be. It means you choose to take the time in your busy schedule to help someone who needs it. Humanity cannot be measured by whether the gesture is small or immense, as long it brings light to one’s life. When a politician decides to steal money set aside to build a road that would help an aged person or one with a disability go by their life without difficulty, it means the person has no humanity in them. It is really sad when someone with a way to help another being with a problem stands aside and watches as a spectator in a football match, all he or she can say is how sorry they are for the victim. That not being humane, feeling sorry or worried is an emotion but for one to be humane they have to give or sacrifice something for the sake of someone else who needs it the most. You do not have to be with much or more than enough to help and be considered benevolent. It does not also mean you have to give everything and remain with nothing for one to be humane. Give what you can while you can. It is really sad when there is a crisis somewhere or someone is going through a tough time for one to look away or express how sorry they are about the situation without doing anything about knowing full well they can help. The truth is no matter how sorry you are, that will not make the situation any better. Humanity is not a feeling. Humanity is a value. For anything to have quality then action has to make. When someone with millions or access to influence recognizes a problem that they can have a solution to temporarily or permanently decide to be an onlooker and sympathizer without doing anything about it, it’s shameful.
It is true that we came with nothing and will go with nothing why look for wealth every day for display? You can’t even find a child in hunger who needs just a few cents from your bile to survive through the day and not offer help. All you give is sympathy. I guess those who created words ensured that sympathetic has pathetic in it. It is pathetic to sympathize with someone when you can be of help.
Humanity is a part of one unconscious self. Those whore humane will never stand aside while someone else has a problem not if they can do anything about it. Someone who is truly humane will prefer giving their shoulders or hope to one who needs it if they can’t do anything else. Human beings are different but no one is born without the ability to be humane the choice to cultivate it or not is personal. You may think that being humane is a weakness but if it’s ingrained in you one will never see it as such. True some people are evil and will try to use it against you to accomplish their agenda. As long as your intentions are pure you do not need to worry about others' goals. The universe always finds a way to repay someone according to their intent in every situation.
As guessing that the politicians in Africa are such kind of people. They appeal to their citizens’ humane side to conclude their plans. During politics, they will be the humblest people, and visionary, and they will say anything to appeal to their citizens why they should be the ones to help them. They tell us about what they have done for us and how it is only right for us to wake up early birds chirping to go vote for them for their own sake. When they are finally in the government, all they think about is how they will fill their bank accounts with dollars even if it means at the expense of the people who trusted them with their hopes, pain, and dreams.
It is so sad really to see these people concentrating so much on their monetary value, more than the value of their lives. Don’t they realize death is a constant for every human and no matter much money you have, one will never be able to buy even a second more to be alive? Instead of trying to make the lives of their people and loved ones easier, they concentrate too much on themselves. You will leave all those assets you have behind; they can even vanish at any point. The value of humanity that you express will always be remembered that is what matters.
Tom Mboya was assassinated by the ones who did not appreciate what he was trying to do for his people. The mark he left behind in people’s hearts is always remembered. We do not remember how many cars, he had. How much money he had. All those have already been forgotten but the mark he made in people’s lives, what he did to help people who needed it, and his benevolence are remembered. Those who felt and experienced the quality of his humanity made sure to pass on that value to generations. We do not remember most of the politicians he had within the parliament. Why would you allow yourself to fade when you have a chance to be immortal? People will care now about the power you have. They will care about the wrongs you do to them now. Eventually, as time goes by and you lose your importance, they will forget that but the good you did for someone when their life was so bleak, they will treasure your memory. Why would you let that go just so that you can fill your bank account? It is not wrong to have money but without a legacy, after a while, you will be forgotten and no one will even remember you existed. The thing is no one makes their legacy the people who impact life will do it for you.
A while ago I was coming from school going home in the evening when I met this girl I had seen before. I had talked to her before but I did not know her well. She was crying, and her boyfriend, and beaten her and threw her out of the house. I lived alone and knew I could take her to my house for the night or at least until she can figure something out. That night I talked to her trying to advise and give her hope that everything will be alright. I was glad and fine with it.
The next morning, her wounds were worse so she needed to go to the hospital. I even offered to take her but she insisted she would be okay. She asked me to give her my phone to take it to an expert to mend it and I did. That evening she came back to my house pleading with me to let her stay one more night I accepted. I asked about the phone and she explained it was still at the shop being repaired.
On the second day, I had to go somewhere, her wounds were still painful so I allowed her to stay in the house until I come back. When I did come back, I found my house was empty everything I had important she had taken. I was so devastated, that I had no clue where to start looking for her. I never found her. She disappeared no one knew where she was. I went to the police but they needed money from me to help. I did not have any. I went downhill from then getting drunk and not caring about anything or anyone.
By the time I came to meet her again. I had already forgiven her and moved on. People asked me to let them teach her a lesson. I did not see any reason to do that. I only talked to her, telling her how betrayed I felt for what she had done. She tried to give me explanations for her actions but I did not want to hear them. So I let her go with no consequences on my side. Life did not forgive her that easily though, she is now married to someone who never sees her worth. She does not have anyone to turn to, everyone knew what she had done.
That experience has never stopped me or even made me hesitate when it comes to helping people in need. Never choose how you should live your life because someone else chose to hurt you. Humanity is a quality that one should never stop showing just because someone else chose to misuse it. Always remember consequences come according to your choices not the choices of others towards your choices.
