Nightmares & cuddles (2)

I find myself running, from a terrifying man. The roads dark and winding and I have no idea where I'm going. I have no clue as to where V, I'm all by myself and I need to save myself but I don't think I can do it. I have tears pouring down my face in fear, unsure of where to go or what's to come. I turn a corner thinking I've lost him and crash right into him. He pins me to the ground and gets on top of me, laughing maniacally.

I wake up
It was just a nightmare.

It takes me a while to realize that it was just a bad dream, I find myself breathless and cold. My heart racing.

"Babe? Babe! Are you okay?" V asks softly, as she slides her arm from around my waist, the position we were in when we fell asleep tonight. She turns me over so I'm facing her, as she strokes my cheek and moves my hair out of my face. I find myself too shaken up by the dream to speak but I nod. She continues to watch me full of concern as I lay on my back.
"I just had a nightmare" I say as she moves my hair back behind my ears. She watches me for a few seconds before placing a long kiss on my forehead. "I didn't know you had those too" she whispers as she lays her head on my chest. "Just sometimes" I say, running my fingers through her hair. "Your heart..it's beating so fast" she says as she looks at me. "I know," I reply.

V gets out of bed and walks around onto my side, motioning for me to move down. She lies down and pats her chest, and I move in. Offering me the sound of her heartbeat to comfort me, as I usually do. She holds me tight and covers us both with the duvet and plants three long kisses on the top of my head.

"I'm sorry for waking you up" I say. She looks down at me, and pulls me closer. "You can wake me up anytime" she whispers. I can only see traces of her face in the pale moonlight but I know she's serious in this moment. She's never experienced this side of things before as it's usually she that has the nightmares while I'm the comforter. I trace her face with my fingers until I find her lips and I move forward and I give her a long kiss, feeling both of us relax into each other's embrace. I pull away and plant a quick kiss on her cheek and then lay my head back on her chest, nestling into her neck. She runs her fingers up and down my back for a few seconds. "What was the nightmare about?" She asks me softly, her voice comforting me more than she knows. "It doesn't matter" I say, intertwining my leg between hers. "I'm okay..I promise" I add. Meaning it. The comfort we feel in each other's presence is timeless and indescribable. I feel myself drifting off to sleep while V plays with my hair. And just before I fall completely asleep I hear her whisper
"I love you"

A couple of people have messaged me and commented under the very first chapter of this book, titled 'Nightmares & Cuddles,' and they've told me that that chapter was a comfort chapter to them and that they often go back and read it when they feel stressed/anxious. And I thought I'll write a similar chapter so you guys have more than one chapter to go back and read if ever you feel anxious<3
