"Ugh, I barely know her, but she makes me so pissed," Chaerim gritted through her teeth as she skated around the rink with Sunghoon. "She clearly screwed up first impressions."

"Don't let her get to you. Let's just practice for now," Sunghoon suggested.

"No I can't, Sunghoon," she sighed with exasperation, "She's one of the biggest rivals I have to compete with."

He paused thinking deeply.

"You're right," Sunghoon finally exclaimed, "So if you're going to compete against her and win, you have to think about the best techniques and strategies you're going to use."

"Yes," she grinned, "Let's win this thing."

At dinner...

Chaerim, Sunghoon, and coach Ji sat at a small table in the hotel's restaurant, eating a light meal before a full day at practice tomorrow morning.

"Did you guys end up practicing or staying in your rooms?" coach Ji questioned.

"We went to practice," Sunghoon responded as he began to cut his steak.

"That's good. What did you mainly focus on?"

"We practiced what you basically told us to do," Chaerim said flatly.

"Chaerim," her coach exclaimed with a puzzled face, "What's wrong? Your attitude is off. You seemed so much happier and relaxed earlier today."

"I met Lada Nikolaeva."

"Oh, interesting... wait what?!" coach Ji said in shock as she dropped her fork, "You met Lada Nikolaev? How? When? How is she?"

"A total bitch," Chaerim muttered under her breath.

Sunghoon choked trying to contain his laughter.

"Yah, Sunghoon, are you okay?" coach Ji asked with concern as she began hitting his back to prevent him from choking more.

"Yeah," he said weakly as he drank his water, "It's just I haven't seen Chaerim this pissed in a while. It's kind of funny."

"Ha ha, very funny," Chaerim rolled her eyes as she angrily shoved a forkful of salad in her mouth.

"Wait why?" coach Ji meddled.

"She's so rude. She literally insulted me and she doesn't even know who I am as a person and skater. Lada assumes she's better than me because she's seen some of my performances and can do a quad-lutz. Like what the hell. You don't go insulting your opponent without actually knowing what they're like. For crying out loud, she doesn't even know I can do a triple axle. She doesn't know how much practice, the simulations, and other stuff I had to go through to get here."

"She sounds like a total pain," coach Ji scoffed, "I should go up to her face and tell her that she's in for the biggest loss of her life."

"Yah, coach-nim, don't do that. Besides, I don't even know what I'm going to do," Chaerim sighed with a tone of defeat.

"Chaerim, don't say that. You already sound like you lost," Sunghoon exclaimed while he patted her back, "You can do it! Just have faith in yourself."

"I swear you've been saying the cheesiest things today," Chaerim exhaled, "But yeah, you're right."

"Aigoo, we just landed in Austria, but there's already so much tension. Shall we get some dessert? It's on me," coach Ji suggested with high hopes.

They both smiled softly and agreed. Dessert was the best way to solve problems.

After that day, Chaerim never saw Lada Nikolaev at the figure skating rink. Though Chaerim was training especially hard, she just couldn't get Lada off of her mind. Her words. Her actions. Lada had so much pride, but the thing was, she had the skill, and Chaerim was afraid.

6 days later, the day of the competition...

Chaerim woke up bright and early for day 1 of the competition. 4:30 am to be exact. Day 1 was for performing the short programs while day 2 was for the free skate. She did not want to be late for an international competition and did not want to rush. (Sunghoon was not performing till day 3 and 4).

She put on her elegant ice blue and white dress she ordered for the occasion as she took hours fixing her hair and makeup. When she finished up, she threw on her white warmup jacket that had a print of the South Korean flag.

As she grabbed her duffle bag and headed down the stairs to meet coach Ji and Sunghoon for breakfast, she couldn't help but worry what her performance was going to look like

"Okay Chaerim, think of sorrowful innocent love. Have the emotion and think of sorrowful love. Don't screw this up. You can not embarrass yourself today," she panicked, "You cannot lose against Lada Nikolaev."
