This isn't what he wanted at all.
Of course, it had been his idea. All he wanted was to help you and seeing as he couldn't do it himself, he had swallowed every last speck of pride and asked his younger brother for help. It was for your sake, your happiness, that he had done it, but seeing you laugh so gently and wholeheartedly at Saburo's stupid jokes made Jiro regret his decisions to a point where it physically hurt him.
It all started about a month back. Jiro hadn't really paid any attention to you before that, thinking a reserved and careful girl like you would probably want nothing to do with him anyway. Especially seeing as his friends liked to tease you over the smallest little things, Jiro thought you would appreciate it more if he at least stayed away from you.
However, it seemed fate had other plans.
The two of you would continuously bump into each other at the strangest of places, unable to do anything other than stutter and stare at the ground as explaining what a boy was doing in the girls locker room was practically impossible to do. Obviously there had been a logical explanation to that particular situation! But how was Jiro expected to be able to explain to a half-naked girl in the otherwise empty locker room that he had heard somewhere the girls locker rooms were a million times better than the boys' and wanted to see it for himself?
Luckily, the situation could've been a lot worse than what it actually was. You had just seemed to laugh it off and even made a couple of jokes. In all honesty, after you offered him some snacks, Jiro found himself wanting to stay with you a little longer, but he quickly escaped after you almost dropped your towel handing over the snacks. Jiro should've realized already back then how nice of a person you are, but the two of you didn't become friends from that.
The day you became friends had started out as the worst day of his life. Jiro had been unable to focus on anything, constantly getting the wrong answer during class and even in the breaks he hadn't managed to score a single goal, tripping over himself and his teammates over and over again. At this point he couldn't even remember what had upset him that much, but it had led him to hide up on the school roof for the next break.
What he didn't expect was to find you hiding up there as well.
Jiro was about to leave you alone when he had noticed you were crying. Realizing he found comfort in the thought of someone having an equally as bad day as him, he decided to sit himself next to you. Without even greeting each other, the two of you had started confessing all your problems. Jiro never thought such a reserved person like you could ever be going through so much pain, deciding that day that he would do everything in his power to make your life a little easier.
And that was exactly what he did.
It started out small, like casually hanging out with you during breaks, instantly asking you to be his partner on a group project and the small things that gave you emotional support. However, it quickly went from sharing his lunch with you to sharing his entire time with you. Jiro made it his mission to make you happy as he noticed himself getting overjoyed each time you told him how thankful you were to him.
He had no idea what his feelings for you were, but at the very least he thought of you as one of his closest friends. And that was exactly why he decided to do what he did.
Mathematics were never his forte. In fact, the entirety of school was the only thing Jiro would ever admit his younger brother was better than him at. When he found you sobbing over a math test you were completely unprepared for, Jiro decided it was time for him to sacrifice one of his greatest prides and ask Saburo to agree on a study session the day before the test.
If it was for your happiness, Jiro would sacrifice anything.
...Is what he initially thought. Jiro furrows his brows as he sees his younger brother comfortably snuggling up against your arm. He knew that little brat was using "I can't see what you're writing from here." as an excuse to shuffle himself closer to you. He scoffs as it looks like Saburo is practically purring against your arm, fighting the urge to remind his younger brother that he was completely opposed to the idea at first.
