Lion kits fur bristled uneasily but she puffed out her chest,

let them stare! she thought, Its not going to catch any prey though! and she padded to the nursery her tail bushed out self consciously. She patted down her cold but welcoming nest and lay down on it. The moss was old, as though the apprentices hadn't changed it since she was three moons old. She peered over towards Dawn Brook's nest, was her moss bad too? But it was lush and green as thought had only been brought there this afternoon.

of course it is, she thought bitterly, What apprentice would want to clear out some fatherless kit's nest when they could skip it and go on to the the nest with the 'adorable' little kits. I'll just have to do it myself. she sighed and got up, padding exhaustedly out of the nursery and across the camp till she reached the entrance. With her tail held high but her paws still asleep she started to walk through the blooming buckbrush tunnel. As she was just about to reach the end of the tunnel she felt a sharp but gentle tug on her fluffy golden tail, she was pulled backwards through the tunnel and found herself exactly where she had started but this time she was looking up into the eyes of her own clan leader, Gentle star.

"Trying to go out on your own are you?" He asked teasingly, Lion kit puffed out her her chest and lashed her tail impatiently,

"Yes, but only because I needed to look for moss."

Gentle stars happy expression dropped and his eyes narrowed , Lion kit felt her fur prick up with unease

"Don't the apprentices get the moss for the nursery nests?" He asked his eyes as cold as stone Lion kit's fur bushed up into a large protective dome around herself but it wasn't from unease this time, it was from anger

"Yeah they clean out Dawn Brook's nest! But who would want to clear out that pathetic scrap of fur's nest?! Who would want to clear out my nest!!!!" She spat " The apprentices haven't been clearing the moss out on my nest for moons!!!!!! So I'm going to do it myself !"

Her ears were pinned back to her head and her eyes were lit with a half crazy fire. Gentlestar's own eyes softened but they had a new sense of worry within them.

"I'll ask them to do it right away." He meowed though he looked away from Lion kits eyes as though if he looked at them his own green eyes would burn into nothing. Quickly he bounded towards the apprentices den and said something to Sky paw and Bark paw in a hushed tone, he stopped and the apprentices expressions softened and Sky paw asked something then Gentlestar continued and Sky paw raised his voice in protest but Bark paw quickly hushed up her brother and got to work .

Bark paw is really nice, thought Lion kit, The other apprentices probably bullied her into not doing it.

She bounded away to the elders den so she could listen to another tale. When she finally got there she stood outside for a couple moments waiting to catch her breath. and that's when she heard it,

"I'm telling you Oat Fur!" cried Brown Bird's muffled mew "It has to be a rogue!"

The deeper voice of Oat Fur sounded from inside the den "Rogue?! Pah! Swift Falcon would rather claw out her own eyes than fall for a rogue!" and that's when a cold realization struck Lion kit,

     They're talking about me!

Tears streamed down her face and she pelted away from the elders den and closer to the entrance, no one would stop her from running away this time! Fallen Lark's mew sounded behind her, but she ignored it and bursted through the tunnel and down the rocky slope! The trees in the mountain forest seemed to be spinning around her, she just wanted to escape it all! all the rumors and whispers, all the disapproving glares! As she ran the mountain changed around her, leading downwards and suddenly there weren't any trees just her and the grass in the open air but she didn't stop running and she ran and ran and ran, until suddenly the ground fell away just in front of her and the roaring of water filled up all her senses. She stopped and peered over the edge of the cliff down below her waves hit big black boulders that stretched out in front of the cliff's sheer rocky face, beyond the rocks water stretched on long and far. Wind buffeted her face and whistled in her ears, it seemed to say

    "This is the answer"

     "You know what to do"

"We've led you here now you have to do it!"

     "jump..."

     "jump."

     "Jump!"

The voices grew louder and louder and they swirled around her in a chorus of wind

     "JUMP!"
