Pull back, line up, let go. Maxine recited this in her head as she let the arrow go and watched it hit the bullseye across the lake. She had been into archery, starting when she was six to please her parents but had always enjoyed the precision of the sport.

It was so unlike her. So poised and perfect. She chuckled to herself as she thought about her mother's harsh words from when she was a child. 'No man wants a woman with a smart mouth!'

"The first step in understanding one's power is learning the extent of it. Only then can we begin the process of teaching you how to control it." Max turned her head to the left to see the Professor, who was sat in his electric wheelchair as always, with Hank and the two brothers. She scowled but didn't move from her spot right away as she wanted to see what would happen.

"If you do decide to stay, I can promise that by the time you're done here, you'll be able to go back into the world and play a stable and productive part in it. Why don't you take you bandages off and we can have a look at what we're dealing with here? Alex, would you line him up? Face him in the right direction, as it were." Charles said.

'So that's the brothers name, Alex..' Max thought to herself as she watched to older man pull down his sunglasses and line up to blindfolded boy. She turned around with her bow and walked back to Jean, who was sitting under one of the willow trees, the same one they always hung out under. The red-head was reading her favorite book at the moment as it changed often, 'The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.' Which was actually pretty good.

Max sat under the willow tree, laying on her back but propped herself up so she could see the show. Her position was far enough away were she could still hear them with her good hearing but they couldn't hear her.

"There's a target just across the water. When you open your eyes, try and hit that." The blindfolded boy took off the bandages around his eyes but kept them shut. The black haired girl couldn't see his expression as she was facing his back but she could tell he was hesitant.

"You can open your eyes, Scott." The Professor started as Max thought about his name. 'Scott..hmm, nice name. Doesn't make him any less of a dick but still.' Jean swatted her arm and spoke in her mind, 'Quit it. He's scared of his power and is stressed because he doesn't want to hurt anyone. You weren't any better when you got here too.'

Max only pursed her lips and kept her narrowed eyes at the new guy, knowing that she was telling the truth. But then again, she had always had a stand-off attitude, scared of people getting to close but once they got over the wall, she didn't want to let them go.

A large blast cut her off and made her snap her head in that direction. A red laser cut through the water, through the middle of her archery target and up the middle of an old oak tree that had been there forever. Some of the kids that had been nearby shrieked and screamed, backing up so they didn't get hit.

Max let out a snort and covered her mouth with her hand before cackling into it. This was too funny to her. She was laughing so much she fell on her side, the side of her head laying on Jeans thigh as she continued laughing. Her laughter getting more high pitched and she couldn't stop.

Hank looked over at the two girls, being able to hear Max's incoherent laughter with his advanced hearing, and scowled at the black haired girl. Jean pet the side of the older girls head, trying to help her calm down.

'Give her a bit.' Jean said in Hanks head, making him nod and turn back around as Charles enrolled Scott into the School for the Gifted.
