"Who serves healthy snacks on New Year's? Are you out of your mind?", Kylie chastised me.
"People who want to fit into the outfits they bought at the Christmas sale do.
We got to make it worth the purchase. Not everybody has a fast metabolism like yours.", I retorted.
"But New Year's is like a default cheat day.", she cribbed.
"I never forced anyone to choose healthy. You can hog over all the filth you want from the junk."
"I regret not bringing Joey along. You suck at party shopping.", she accused.
"In that case, you would have ended up buying only chips and drinks."
"Isn't that the big plan?", she said dryly.
"No! Come on Kylie. New Year isn't your regular booze and snooze party. It's a festivity. Welcome a fresh year with positivity and joy, will you?" I squatted her hand away from the cookie stand. We already had bought enough to last a ton.
"Do you expect us to play Christmas carols too at your auspicious party?", she shot back.
"No, I am just trying to make it look less like a frat party."
"Sorry to disappoint you, but our guest list comprises strictly of people who attend parties only for the booze."
"Exactly why this party should be different. Get a break from the conventional parties, Kylie. Let's break this cult in the name of Jesus."
"You are no fun. Michigan has made you dull. This party is going to suck."
"I know what I am doing. Just trust me, will you?"

Like every year, we had conspired a NYE party at Kylie's and divided different tasks among us. Kylie and I were in charge of food and drinks and Andy and Sandy were in charge of décor and lighting. Joey was enlisted with music and invitations. We usually invited a dozen other people from school to make it look more like a party and less like a get-together.
Everything from our end was perfected to the T. We had secured an ever-replenishing stock of jelly sandwiches, chips, soya nuggets, cookies, tortilla, cheese dip, cola and of course wine, beer and ice. No one would remain scarce of service under my reign.
I plucked out a rich maroon backless dress from my closet which had an enticing neck to go today's Sangria. I paired it with golden hoops around my ears and a rose gold choker with my name in cursive fixated around my neck. It was my Christmas present from Aurelia. I was in awe of it. It had remained around my neck ever since she had given in to me.
I flung my hair loose, flaunting my natural waves and dabbed some concealer around my eyes to hide the dark circles. I put on some light make-up and highlighted my eyes with a shiny eye liner. I picked up my red clutch, stepped into my high heels securing the buckle tie.
After clicking a few pictures, I was satisfied with, I finally headed to join the others on Kylie's terrace. I checked my phone for any messages. The was one from Adrian.
Adrian:
Enjoy the partyyyy...
That was so sweet of him. Surprisingly, I hadn't received many texts or calls from Adrian once I landed. He had just texted to know whether I had reached safely or not and the customary greetings in the morning and at night before going to bed.
I had spent my entire break catching up with my friends and family. Mornings began with scrumptious family breakfasts and the entire day went by hanging out at our spots with Kylie and the others. I remained occupied with someone or the other all day which left me no time for Adrian. However, I had called him yesterday night once I was all settled at home to catch up with him before I slept. We talked for a while and I ran him through my NYE plans. I felt bad for him since he was going to be welcoming a new year all alone. I wish we could have been together.
