chapter 44

Kristian's pov : ( still in the flashback 6 years ago ): 

a loud ringing made me jerk of the uncomfortable chair that i was sleeping on , dizzily as i opened my eyes the darkness off the room greeted me back i tried to search for my phone but i couldn't see it any where , after  sobering up a bit i was able to find my phone laying under some files that i was studying before i looked at the caller id feeling pissed for being awakened at 4 am but the number was unknown  making me frown even more after all i wasn't in the mood for prank calls , i picked up the phone and answered 

"hello "

"hello , Mr. Knight ,this is NY  international police department  i am deeply sorry for awaking you at such time ..." the once sleepy eyes for now fully open and my calm mind was sent into overdrive as i felt my blood go cold , something happened that was all i could think off  

"what's going on ?"  

"I am sorry sir but your presence is required in our department right this moment and an officer is already on his way to escort you , i will be waiting for you "  and  like that the call was over , i stood in front of my desk unmoving it took me a couple of seconds to register what's going on until the sound on knocking snapped me , i ran towards my jacket wore and took my phone and wallet so i could leave , the moment i reached the entrance i saw a dishevelled mateo standing there with eyes full of worry 

"they called you ?"  he asked 

" yeah lets go " 

"i already woke up Claire to take care of Noah " 

"good " i said as i walked to the door and opened it to find a police car outside with an officer standing beside it , i walked towards him and shacked his hand for a greeting and asked him for details but all he said was that we are needed in the office and that's all , we left the mansion with our own car following the police car , mateo was sitting beside me as i drove ,my knuckles were turning white form how hard i was clenching the steering wheel  

"its gonna be okay Kris ..." mateo whispered as he patted my shoulder , but the bounce of his leg and the shaking of his hand betrayed his  persona and made him even more fragile than what i was at this moment , but still i nodded my head hoping i could convince myself  that everything will really be okay.

reaching the police department both me and mateo ran towards the office where we were called , we walked in and what greeted us was three officers , one in his uniform and one sitting behind the desk and one who was wearing a suit and all three had gloomy expressions on their faces 

"what's going in ?"  mateo asked as he stood in front of the desk 

"MR. mateo and Mr. Kristian , i am so sorry for calling you at such time ..."

"cut the chase and tell us what happened !" i snapped at him as i took a seat in front of the man in the suit 

"let me explain " the man in the suit said 

"  my name is George Sir , and I am the head chief of the security of international flights coming and going out of NY airport , I am really sorry sir but it seems like the plane that your family has been flying had a problem and we can't seem to contact them or find them on our Rader at all " 

"what ?" a whisper came from beside me as mateo slumped on the couch and stared at George with disbelief 

"how can a plane disappear?" 

" sadly we don't have enough information yet , we already sent some search parties to look around and we are in constant contact with Italy's private airport where there plane had departed couple of hours ago "

"how did you know that the plane was missing ? " i asked as i was already getting my phone out of my pocket and was calling mason 

" the pilot asked for permission for and emergency contact with me , but by the time i was able to contact him the line was already disconnected and we couldn't reach them again " 

i nodded my head as i started thinking of all possible things that could have happened , i was waiting for mason to answer but he was not answering no matter how many times i ringed and that was another alarming thing that was happening , mason never misses a call from me no matter how busy he is 

"kristian no body is answering the phones, not even the bodyguards "   mateo said as he paced the room , my patience was already reaching it's limits when suddenly at the end of the phone a tired mason answered 

"you heard ?" mason said with a sigh 

"do you know what happened ?" 

" i am tracking the plane as we talk , i have five teams ready to go on signal , i am just waiting to find the location , but.... i have a bad news kristian " my heart stopped as i had already guessed what he was about to say 

 " the Romanos are acting shady , I detected them moving a couple of hours ago but there was no movement inside the country so I ... " i heard a beeping sound come from the background that made mason stop talking in the middle of his sentence 

"why did you stop talking  ? what happened ?" i was having an Eerie feeling while mateo and everyone stared at me in the office  

" I ... I am sorry man ... " another silence devoured me as mason took a breath 

"the--the plane crashed in island in the middle of nowhere " 

and just like that my whole life came crashing down , taking all my loved ones with it , destroying my hope and dreams and killing me with it slowly ...
