** forever is a long time, halsey

three weeks had gone by since your brutal punishment. you had yet to talk to your mother, even though dominic made sure your accounts were always active. the first two weeks, he acknowledged you but never said a word to you. you would catch him staring at you sometimes in the backyard, like he was studying you. every night, he locked himself in the room inside of the living room; you'd yet to find out what he was up to. this last week was a little different:

monday: you sat down with dom in the couch; he had been writing something and you hadn't heard him say a single word in nearly three hours. you apologized about what happened at the park; you really meant it. "i'm sorry for leaving like that, dom. or...well..trying to leave. it wasn't okay, and it wasn't fair to you. i really want to try," you wait for him to say something, but nothing ever leaves his lips.

tuesday: you got up earlier than usual; he was asleep on the couch with that same notebook from yesterday. it's still early enough for breakfast, so you hop to the kitchen. "hm," you wonder through the cabinets: eggs, butter, bread, leftover raspberries in the freezer, a bit of bacon, and some sausage. "yep, i'm set." you were very careful not to wake him as he continued to groan relentlessly.

by the time you were done, it was nearly nine. you make him a plate, setting it in front of him on the table along side a new glass of water. the clinking was almost like an alarm for him. he groaned as he attempted to adjust his sleepy vision. "mornin' sleepy," you greet him. he looks around in disbelief, taking a whiff of the air. probably smelling the bacon. he began eating, but there was no "thank you," no "good morning." what the fuck.

wednesday: you could hear him yelling on the phone with someone as you sat in your bed. it had been going on a lot longer than his usual conversation. suddenly, everything went dead silent. you were almost too scared to move. a few moments went by, and just as you crept up to go see what was happening, you nearly hit the floor at the sound of shattering glass. your heart broke for him along with every glass fixture.

this boy really had no clue how to control himself. you wanted to help him, as bad as that sounds. you slow creep downstairs, watching his every move with every turn through the spiral staircase.

you sat at the bottom, watching him have it out with himself. every move was frightening; you were afraid you'd be struck by glass, but there was something beautiful about it. every step he took was imperative; he was barefoot, and he didn't seem to be worried. it was almost like you were hoping he'd get hurt, so you could help him..

he didn't realize you were there until he threw a vase over your head, which shattered on the wall behind you; you flinched, but no sound left your body. he stopped yelling his northern english gibberish. he knelt in front of you, which startled you a bit, he took a good look at you for a moment before extending his arm. you were hesitant, and he could tell.

"just let me in," was all he said. he sounded heartbroken; it was pitiful.

"control yourself." your words struck him. his few words were all you got out of him that day.

thursday...today: you pondered around the house looking for him, you wanted to go for a swim to be productive. he was no where to be found; you checked the drive way through windows, his vehicle's here, you check out back, he's not there either. you pass through the living room when a very faint sound catches your attention: a guitar.

you sit in the floor against the door so you can listen. he strums a few different progressions before repeating one over and over again. seem like he found the right one. but then he opened his mouth:

"only thing that i knew that a love could lead me to was protecting my sisters...from cut and the blood that my mum and dad would always take out on each other..."

he tried that same phrase with a few different words until he got it worked out. his next verse touched you:

"nobody taught me how to love myself, so now...i'll try to love somebody else?"

"no, no. fook," he went back and forth for words before he tried again.

"...nobody taught me how to love myself, so how can i love somebody else, i'm so new to this; i swear that i'm doing my best..."

you closed your eyes as you wished you could hear him more often. the more you sit there and listen, the more familiar you become with his voice. your eyes blow wide open, "holy fuck," you whisper as you quietly rush to find that cd.

you quickly rush to the cd player, pop it in, and turn down the volume just enough to where you could hear it without disturbing him.

"maybe i just need to go to california,"

holy shit. that's him. you were physically mind blown. every second you thought about it, the more flustered you became. "how the fuck did i not," you bump into something sturdy...or someone sturdy. you turn around only to be greeted by his stiff stature.

he cocks a brow, "you alright?" his voice is rather monotone, like he didn't care much. you stutter to find the words, hell, you didn't even know if he wanted you to know. "uhm...well, i, i was looking for you because i wanted to see if you wanted to swim. i don't a have a suit but i'll make it work. since i couldn't find you, i popped in a cd and it's really good."

he wasn't buying it. you started breathing heavily, "where did you even come from?" you scratch the back of your head, acting clueless. he steps closer to you with his hands clasped in front of him. "darling i think you already know where i came from," he's only inches from your face.

"...are you mad?" you flash him your puppy dog eyes, you swore you saw his pupils dilate. he extends one of his hands out to you, allowing you to take it, so you do. "i wanna show you something." he takes the lead.

he's actually about to show you what's behind that door. you really weren't sure what you'd find. as it opens, your eager to peek. you see his guitar, but everything else, you were not expecting.

there is an entire studio in here. "oh my god," you were mind blown. "this is where i do my best emotion release methods if i'm not in the cellar by myself. if you ever can't find me, i'll either be here or there, knock on this door and i'll answer if i'm here." you pondered around as he spoke before coming to a complete stop, "oh.my.god. it's a,"

"a grand piano, yeah. i'd love to hear you play some time, y/n."

you nod, eager to press the keys, but you refrain as you become more annoyed at why he didn't say anything, "why didn't you tell me?"

he shrugs, "wasn't something i thought was important."

you would've rather been a groupie than a hostage to him. you had so many questions, "can we talk later tonight?" you look to him as you try and take in everything in front of you, you couldn't help but be fascinated.

"maybe over a night swim," he offers, "but let me take you to find a suit. and no running off this time," his tone lowered an octave with his warning; it sent chills down your spine.

you nod before exiting the studio with him. you went to head upstairs to grab shoes, but you couldn't help but notice that your fingers were still intertwined with his. "oh, shit, m'sorry love," he lets go; you were getting used to him saying that, no matter what situation you're in, but you couldn't control the flush of color from your face, which left you in a peach hue.

"it's okay. i'll be back."
