Chapter 4
Thomas (POV)
School, I'm going to my new school. The trees on the side of the road blur together as the car goes faster down the road. We had already dropped my sister Elena and little brother Jack off at the elementary school. Now it's my turn, I run my hand through my wavy, short blond hair impatiently waiting for the school to come into view.
Turning to my mom, I ask, "Are you sure they won't mind that we are late? It's almost eight o five". My mom's hair is done up in a tight ponytail, her black and white formal clothes are on, my brother, sister, and I aren't the only ones thrown into a new scenery.
My dad and mom got divorced about 2 months ago and my mom got custody of us. Elena and Jack are still too young to understand what's happening, they don't get the fact that they will not see their dad again. Keeping her eyes on the road she nods, "I sure it's perfectly fine hun".
Eventually, we made it to school, pulling up to find a lot of stairs dividing me from the school. I get out and wave bye to mom as she dries off.
After the car disappears, I slowly make my way to the entrance. Looking up, I notice a girl sitting on the steps to the right hunched over reading a book. Her long golden blond hair falls loosely around her shoulders, she has a thin body frame and is wearing a light blue shirt with sporty leggings. As if sensing my gaze, she looks up. Breaking into a smile, she closes her book and hops down the stairs, never taking her eyes off mine as if we had been friends for years. For some reason, I feel like I have already met her before. But how and when?
Once she gets to where I am standing she pauses and holds out her hand "My name is Megan and you must be the new student?". Up close her eyes are a deep moss green flecked with gold, a detail I didn't notice before.
Holding up my hand and shaking hers, I say, "Yeah, how did you know? There must be so many kids in this school, how could you know all of them,"?
Laughing she replies "I am the only one out of all the students here that are ever late to classes so I would know if I had a tardy friend that goes to school late alongside me".
"Speaking of tardy, I had a meeting or guide today for around the school at eight o'clock and am late. Do you know where I should meet to start the tour"?
"Lucky for you you're in the right place and I'll be showing you around the school..." Megan fades off from what she was saying looking up at me as if trying to silently ask a question.
"Oh, right, my name is Thomas," I say.
Looking down at her makes me feel like a giant. The top of her head just nearly level with my eyes. As if reading my thoughts, Megan asks, "Did you play any sports at your other school? You seem like an athlete type of guy".
"Yes, I used to play football and when it wasn't the season I did lots of working out". Megan tilts her head up at me, the sun making spots in her hair shine, "Oh alright then, I guess we will start with the football field".
⋯
The football field was enormous. The stands were wrapped around the field; it looked like a mini NFL field. Megan says, "Based on your expression, it looks like you didn't have this at your other school"?
Turning back to her I say "No, all we had were two benches, but those were for the players so all the people watching had to stand or bring their chairs. Is this real grass?" Megan nods "Yep".
At my other school, the field was horrible compared to this. We had up to one foot deep holes, dirt spots and pretty much all of it was dead grass. It was more like a large dead garden than a field.
