I think I might have a heart attack (Deathnote FanFic)

I briskly walked along the street. It was around seven in the morning and the sun was slowly rising to its place in the sky. It was a weekend so nearly everyone in the neighbourhood was still asleep in bed. I wish I could be to, but unfortunately I have a long list of this I have to do today, and sleeping in isn't one of them.

"Dam it! Dam it! Dam it!"

I muttered. I need to find a place to find this freaking thing. I had met Rem last night after I first picked up the note. I'll admit it was freaky seeing a Shinigami for the first time, but I guess I'll get used to her following me around. Believe it or not she is actually pretty nice.

Although I still have no idea where to hide the deathnote.

"Hey Mirai,"
Rem interrupted my thoughts.
"Yeah?"
I replied, speaking just loud enough for her to hear me.
"Someones following us."

You've got to be kidding me.

L's finally decided to get someone to follow me around? This isn't good.

I stopped and looked over my shoulder. I couldn't see anything so I continued walking alough I knew they were there, I could sense their presence.

I walked another couple hundred metres then stopped abruptly and turned around again and called out,

"Who's there?"

No reply.

"You know you're a terrible stalker, I could hear you a mile off!"

Still no reply.

Shrugging I walked over to a bus stop behind which I knew my stalker was hiding.

"Hey, I'm talking to you."
I said calmly as I came face to face with my stalker, it was Matsuda.

"Crap!"
He muttered as he took a few steps back, frantically looking around for some means of escape. But it was no use, even if he left now, I had already seen him. Hopefully he hadn't found out to much about me.

For now I just have to act like I have no idea who the hell he is or why he's following me. I just have to react like a normal girl. Well ok maybe a normal girl would have sprinted, but still.

"Dude, seriously what's your problem? Why are you following me?"
I asked putting my hands on my hips.

"Ummm..."
"Come on spit it out."
"I-I wasn't following you, I was just....going to catch the bus! Yes! I was going to catch the bus to headquarters and then.....wait NO! I mean arrrr....."

I threw my head back and laughed, this was all so typical of Matsuda.

"Oh yeah? And what exactly were you going to do at headquarters?"

Matsuda went bright red, he really had stuffed up bad this time round.

"Look you don't need to make up ridiculous stories, just tell me why you were following me."
He sighed.
"Alright, alright. I'm not a creepy stalker or whatever you think I am. My names Matsuda, I was following you because...."
"Because?"
"I'monthetaskforcewiththekira-caseandLthoughtthattgerewasapossibilityyouwerekira,soifollowedyoubevauseificouldproveyouwerekirathenicoukdalsoclearLight'sname."

"I see, so L didn't give you direct orders to follow me. You decided to do that yourself to clear up your friends name."

Matsuda nodded.

"Well I hate to break it to you, but I'm not the person you're after."
"What?!"
"I'm sorry Matsuda, I wish I could help you, but I'm not Kira."

I turned to leave but Matsuda stopped me.

"B-but what about all those times when you were following L and Light around? You were at the ceremony, the tennis match, you were on that bus, you even went to Lights place on one occasion. Your names Mirai Rai right?"

Shit, they even knew my 'name'.

I stopped and turned around to face him.

"I'm sorry but I don't know what your talking about."
I replied calmly.

"But then how in earth can you possibly be at the right place at the right time like that? It's like you can tell the future or something! How do you know all this? Please tell me."

He looked at me desperately.

"Please."

I took a deep breath,

"Even if I told you, you still wouldn't believe me."

"Go on, I'm listening."

"Promise you won't laugh?"

He nodded.
