"I have a strange feeling with regard to you. As if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly knotted to a similar string in you. And if you were to leave I'm afraid that cord of communion would snap. And I have a notion that I'd take to bleeding inwardly. As for you, you'd forget me." ― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
The morning breeze slapped him cold in the face. He felt a patchy surface underneath him.
'Must've kept the window open' Draco muttered to himself
When he heard the sound of water slowly moving in the wind and felt a bright light shine through, he slowly opened his eyes to see that he wasn't in his Slytherin dorm. He was outside, right next to the black lake.
He shook his head and rubbed his eyes as he sat his body up thinking he was in some sort of lucid dream. He did a reality check- counted all his fingers. All 10 fingers were there. Tried poking them, but nothing out of the usual happened. Even went to the lake to check if his reflection was odd. nothing. This was very real
His face was sore and his head was aching- not to mention, he was extremely cold. it was the middle of November for goodness sake.
What was he doing in the black lake? asleep?
Memories began to reconnect. he remembers coming to the black lake at night to study, he remembers struggling, and his lungs felt heavy, he remembers a face, a beautiful face, but it's all just small pieces of one very big puzzle.
As his memories slowly began to match together, a lousy voice interrupted
"Oh, Draco!"

Cordelia watched from afar as the boy woke up. She stood awake the entire night, keeping an eye on him- not in a creepy way of course
During the late nights, while she was closely watching him. as he began to mumble profanities and silent screams under his breath- making her worry. When she swam to the top of the grass, he magically seemed to calm down, his breathing slowing down as she did. Apparently, her presence was enough for him.
As he was waking up, she sank her head down the water- watching him fumbling in confusion. He walked towards the lake, checking his reflection, and patting his messy hair. His face was painted with scars from last night. The boy didn't see Cordelia in the lake- because of its mysterious dark color- but she was right below him- and she could see everything
His eyes were brighter in the cold sun, and his skin glistened in the reflection. She would've melted right in the water if the weather wasn't so numbing.
A confused look was painted on his face as he stepped out of the lake's way. He seemed to be in deep thought, suddenly- an irking voice interrupted him
"Oh, Draco!"
'Draco, that must be his name' Cordelia thought
A girl with sharp features, pronounced lips, waist-length brown hair, and emerald green eyes came skipping towards the boy- his once confused look began to look like a very ugly scowl
"Draco!" she whined as she came closer to him, practically clinging to him for dear life
"What is it Astoria? Can't you see I'm a bit busy?" The boy snapped at her with fury.
"Draco! Where have you been? I've been so worried about my Draco" Cordelia cringed at the thought, and held her anger tightly between her fist as she watched the girl plant sloppy and craving 'I love you's' on his scarred cheeks.
