His leg bounced up and down on the hardwood floor of the classroom as his mind was running a marathon. The kind teacher's voice was muffled over his previous pacing footsteps from the morning adjacent that had reflected through the clear memory glass mirrors constructed in his head

"Mr. Malfoy!" She exclaimed as she had tried to get his attention multiple times before, having to unnecessarily raise her voice, something unusual to students as she maintained a peaceful and harmonious aura, even with the most inadequate of her students.

"See me after class" He blinked in confusion as he had done almost nothing wrong but inwardly escape the classroom for what he thought was a couple of seconds. At this, he scoffed, shaking his head with a menacing glare, discerning that seeing a teacher after class was the weakest of his concerns.

The class carried on smoothly after the small bump in the road. Draco had managed to write some notes down, although he had already been unmotivated for several reasons he will not care to list.

"We compared Sirens and Mermaids last term; now, I wish we focus on Mermaids alone, their tribes, history, colonies, and so on and so forth..." She began. Draco had noted how her voice had seemed to be shakey. Furthermore, she gulped tensely as if the air that was swallowed was magically replaced with a bird, and continued

"Please open your textbooks to the second chapter, and begin reading silently to yourselves" All students began to scan the book with their eyes, taking in the knowledge given to them. All except for Draco, who had been too busy worrying about 'his' own stolen notebook. After finding the dent of an empty mattress, he flipped the room upside down searching for the notebook. One he'd stolen from the dark lord's house, a man he feared the most. Blaise had walked in on Draco's manic search; His hair had been messier than it was before, and there was a thin layer of sweat that coated his bone-white skin. The boy's friend knitted his brows before hesitantly asking him to join his group of friends for breakfast. Draco instinctively rebuffed his offer, too preoccupied with his responsibilities

He had missed his first 2 classes because of this, and of course, on top of that what he claimed as now his book was nowhere to be found. Reluctantly, he had joined his Care of Magical Creatures class. Still, too much of his perturbation, he had missed Defense Against the Dark Arts, and he knew that it won't be too long until he hears a word or a dozen from Professor Snape. Snape did not care if he missed any class to work on his tedious assignment, but he had an issue when it came to his class.

Draco was too busy in a subconscious loop to have even realized the class had already been discussing the contents of the first chapter

"...Mermaids frequently seek human partners and are generally more attracted to humans than Mermen (Researchers have yet to find out why) Marriages or relations between a human and a mermaid are called 'Mixed Marriages' and they usually end with one partner leaving the other, especially when a child is involved. Other reasons for separating would be because mermaids live forever, and humans are only mortal." Draco flinched when he felt his heart rigorously jump out of his rib cage, alongside feeling sharp ache sting venom through the bones of his hearts and lungs cage. His eyes had opened fully, not very sure of what had just happened. He even noticed Xeno and Daphne give him a funny look at this, yet Daphne seemed more concerned. He had brushed it off and wrote a couple of notes down of the lesson:

-seek human partners,
-human+mermaid=mixed marriages+child=divorce (subsequently; do not have a child with a mermaid)

-Mermaids immortal etc, etc...

"...The only case in which a mermaid is not mortal is when they are the offspring of a mixed marriage- Something we refer to here in the wizarding world as halfbreeds- We'll discuss half-mermaids and halfbreeds in our next lesson" The charming teacher had said, with her heavy and thick American accent that weighed upon the usual British accent students were so used to
