CW: Panic attacks

''I won't hurt you''

The words seemed to bounce from each wave of deep hurt she had been surrounded by her entire life.

Her head turned to face Draco, who was now kneeling down on the autumn grass. He muttered a spell that cast some sort of invisible umbrella shielding them from the pouring water.

They were both in their own world, no worries, just Cordelia and Draco

Stares, such longing and yearning stares.

Cordelia kept her distance, hiding behind the rock that was once crushing her, and clutching onto it for dear life as the waves rocked her shaking figure back and forth, almost matching the rhythm of her pulsing heart

...

They both seemed to be analyzing each other closely, reading through each other like a fairytale story. Her lips were flawlessly shaped, they looked a soft shade of ruby red, with the cupid's bow peaking just right. She looked like a beautiful night's sky, her skin sparkled in the ever so delicate moonlight, the blush on her cheeks was the soft faded clouds, and the freckles that were dotted across her nose and cheeks were the flickering stars that he loved to stare at so much.

When his eyes met hers, he'd swear he'd seen a glint of light sparkling through her. Her eyes- they were the most exquisite thing Draco Malfoy had ever seen. Both eyes looked like gems of chatoyant, as they were both a beautiful uneven shade of green and honey. But one glance of her eyes made him see things so clearly. Her tear-stained cheeks, her quivering lips, her furrowed and creased brows- he had not noticed any of these flaws until he met the eyes that told a story of a lifetime

They had both been looking at each other so carefully, they didnt even realize the raging thunder and the angry skies just passed them

''I won't hurt you''

The words seemed to mumble from his mouth like second nature to him

It all just seemed so right

It took him a second to realize what she was, a mermaid- a warm water mermaid living with sirens, horrible, vile sirens

"Why were you tied up here? Who did this to you?"

Draco wasn't really one to care much about people. The only person he had really ever cared so deeply about was his mother, for he would sell his soul just to have the reassurance of protection over her

Although, something felt different about this one

...

''Why were you tied up here? Who did this to you?"

Cordelia had never heard such concern- such worry in someone's tone. She had been so used to being scolded with such a harsh and metallic voice. A tear escaped falling with no warning at all, burning her sensitive slapped cheeks.

She knew this was stupid, she knew this was dumb, to be crying or even getting the slightest bit of emotion flow through her over someone's 'tone of voice'. Cordelia felt pathetic and small. All she wanted to do was crawl into a deep hole, and shadow herself from the rest of the awful world she was ashamed to live in

She was in too deep thought to feel the warm touch of his wiping her despair away. She froze at the warmth, as she had not remembered the last time she had felt such a cozy feeling

It felt all just seemed so right

He felt like the home she never had

Cordelia had never felt anyone before, but that seemed to all change when she slowly extended her hand to firmly hold his arm- as if she had been grieving for the wish of life

When he saw the dreaded tear leak from her eyes, his thumb automatically came to wipe it away. She froze at his action, practically flinched. But soon, she seemed to melt so perfectly with his delicate and simple hold. The dark void in both their eyes expanded simultaneously with nothing but affection when she connected her hand with the same arm that had been giving her this new feeling of comfort

All worries, all fret seemed to thaw from his mind at this very moment. Draco wasn't really sure of what he was feeling, what this sudden wave of tornadoes he felt at the pit of his stomach. But-

It all just seemed so right

...

"I was punished for my faulted mistake"

The trained words slipped from her mouth so perfectly, as she felt no fear at all

Confusion and shock painted his beautifully sculpted face. Cordelia realized what she had just said was too much for him to know

"If you dare flinch an eye towards him, we'll make sure neither of you sees the light of day"

"We'll make sure your loverboy will get the punishment he deserves"

The threats bounced off the walls of panic in her mind. She shook in fear and stuttered

"N-no- I shouldn- shouldn't have said th-that" She hiccupped as more tears covered her face. Cordelia squeezed his arm tight hoping to let go of some tension

She felt nausea through her stomach and her hands were numb, yet she could still feel the blood rushing through her unevenly

"No, No, No" Her words tumbled calamitously from her irritated body as she tried to push herself away from him. She had experienced these swings of hysteria before, but never like this- for this wasn't about her worry, it was about his

He watched as she slowly fell apart into not-so-perfect pieces. A strong strike of melancholy aimed him straight at the heart

"No, I promised you- I won't hurt you" Such sympathy filled him as he spoke to the girl in distress. She had her head down and seemed to be struggling with breathing

He knew she was having some sort of a panic attack. Draco would never admit this to anyone- but he had read a couple of books on muggle psychology, knowing just enough to get her settled

"Ok just- Follow my heart and breathing pattern, yeah?" He brought her shaking hand to his heart, and her head buried in his chest, as he tried to calm down his own breathing so she could match his.

In and out

In and out

After minutes of worry, her heavy breathing was hushed by his gentle movements of him stroking her damp soft hair, that had been braided in an array of flowers. Her stomach still had a pitiful ache, and she had been trembling slightly, but everything seemed to decrease with each second near him.

She had lifted her eyes to meet his

There was no 'Thank you' or expression of any sort of gratitude with words. There was only silence

A comforting silence

The silence that came when two people understood each other

AN: this might be my favourite chapter so far. It took me a while to get to it but once i did, the ideas were spilling out of me so fast. anyway, what house/sign do you think Cordelia would be in?
