After Andrea settled back into her home, three hours later she hears faint knocking on her front door.

No one ever knocked, they would simply invite themselves in.

Wondering who it could possibly be, Andrea opens the door. On her doorstep was her mother who appeared to fall into herself in a shell of a woman. Her posture was hunched, her eyes casted low with sadness in her soul.

Luciana faintly asks, "can I come in?"

"Of course, mama," Andrea welcomes her inside, watching as how her mother shuffled with weakness.

Luciana takes a seat down in her daughters living room as she nervously wrung her fingers.

Andrea goes into her kitchen and brews them up two cups of tea. She walks out, giving her mother her cup.

Andrea begins, "what's wrong, mama?" Taking a slow sip of her scorching hot tea.

Luciana looks up from her cup, tears building in her eyes. She sniffles, "why didn't you tell me?"

Andrea sucks in an uneasy breath, knowing this would be the topic of discussion. "Because I knew this would happen."

Luciana urgently speaks. "But you could've just told me, your mother. We tell each other everything," her mother's voice echoed with heart wrenching pain. "Don't we?"

Andrea runs her fingers through her loose curls. "This is different, you know that."

"But-"

"Mama," Andrea takes her mothers hand after placing her cup on her coffee table. "Believe me when I say this, telling you that I was pregnant was the first thing I wanted to do when I found out. But I was absolutely terrified because of the resentment I faced last night. From papa, especially. You heard what he said, you all did. And none of you came to my defense. You all looked at me as if I was some disgusting creature. I didn't deserve that."

Her mothers tears fell even harder down her face as she tries to explain to her little girl that it was all a misunderstanding.

"Andrea, I tried," Luciana pleaded.

Andrea brokenly smiles as a solo tear falls from her left eye, "you didn't try hard enough."

Andrea stands up from her seated position, turning around to recollect herself.

"Neonato," baby, her mother cries. "I will try harder. And so will papa."

"Papa tried to sell me off. What makes you think he'll ever look at me the same?"

"He loves you, don't doubt that he doesn't. He was- he was shocked like the rest of us when we found out. And he reacted. He had felt embarrassed that he was finding it out from someone that wasn't you and his first reaction was out of anger. Trust me, Andrea, he didn't mean it."

"How do you know?" Andrea asks. "Because he seemed pretty sure about getting me off his hands."

"Because for the first time, your father cried in front of the family. After you stormed out of here, your father fell to his knees and cried. You know papa is not a man who cries, but when the realization dawned on him that he may have just lost his daughter, it hit him. Losing you or any of his children would be the end of him, like it would be the end of me."

Andrea walks up to her mother, kneeling in front of her and taking her face into her hands.

"You will never lose me," Andrea kisses her mothers cheek. "I will always be here, as long as my family has me and my unborn child."
