Ellie's Birthday

It had been a month, since Seattle. Certain things here and there would trigger the memories, but Ellie and I were doing good considering. It was Ellie's birthday and I wanted to do something special.

Ellie was asleep, I wasn't home. I was organizing this big party for her at the mess hall. Dina, Maria, and Tommy were helping me.

"I think she's really gonna like this." Tommy told me as he looked the decorations.
"She better." I said with a smile on my face.
Tommy put his hand on my back.
"I'm glad she has you. I don't think I ever seen that girl so happy. Joel would be proud."
Those words gave me a small smile, thinking about Joel.
Maria walked up to me.
"The whole towns invited, it's mandatory." She smiled and winked at the both of us.
"Thanks Maria."
"This looks really good." Dina said as she walked up to me.
"Thanks Dina."
I saw that her baby bump got bigger. Not too big but bigger.
"Have you thought of a name yet?" I asked her, looking at her bump and back at her face.
"I was thinking JJ"
"Jesse Junior."
Dina's smile grew.
"Exactly."

Everything had been set up, so i went back home.

I opened the door quietly, taking off my boots, shirt and pants, and climbing back into bed in my boxers.

I wrapped my arms around Ellie from behind.

"Where were you?" She asked, quietly, sounding tired.
"You'll see later."
Ellie turned around and opened her eyes.

She stared at me, her smile growing.
"Good morning birthday girl." I said with a smile.
"Good morning babe."
I pecked her lips, about to sit up, but she grabbed my face pulling me into another kiss.
"Someone woke up happy." I laughed softly.
"It's my birthday." She had the happiest face i've ever seen.
"20 years old now. God damn you're old." I said playfully.
"Well the plan is to grow old together isn't it?"
"That it is-" I began to get up.
"Alright. Time to get up. I got a surprise for you, but first there's a bunch of stuff we gotta do."
"Like what?" She got up next to me.
"Well, you and Dina wanted to move into a big farm right?"
"Yeaahh." Her mood got even brighter.
"I was talking to Tommy and found the perfect place, up the hill, an hour out of town. It has a barn and a big house, and its next to the woods for hunting."
"For real?" She hopped onto my lap.
"No Ellie i'm totally lying to you about something you want." I was sarcastic.
"Shut up." She smacked my arm.
"Well, Dina already moved in all of her stuff, now it's our turn."
She stayed in my lap, just smiling at me.
"What?" I said, smiling at her back.
"How is it that i've been awake for ten minutes and it's already a great day?"
"Pffttttt i'm just awesome." I laughed softly.
"Yes, you are." She kissed me again.

I stood up.

"As much as I want to stay home and kiss you, we gotta get moving." I said, lightly taking Ellie off my lap and standing.

It had been hours, we moved our stuff into the new farm house.

"Fuck I'm so tired." Ellie groaned as we were on a horse, going back to the town.
"Me too, but I still have a surprise for you."
"Is itttt a dinosaur?"
"Why is that your go to guess for everything?" I laughed softly.
"Because dinosaurs are amazing."
"Not wrong."

We kept riding back to town, finally making to our old home.

"Wow it looks so weird." Ellie walked in the empty house but I stayed outside. It was late afternoon.
"You coming in?" She turned to see me still standing outside.
"Come on, I gotta show you something."
I reached out my arm.
She grabbed my hand.
"I think you'll love it." I said as I started walking her to the mess hall.

"Close your eyes." I said as we arrived.
"Whyy?" She looked so excited.
"Becauseeee just do it."
"Okay."
She closed her eyes as I opened the door, seeing the whole town standing there, waiting to surprise her.
