We spent the weekend cleaning the apartment and lounging around. When Monday came, I was beyond ready to get back to training.

"I'll meet you there but I have a feeling it's going to be a mission that I have to leave for tonight." Kakashi says to me as he pours himself a bowl of cereal.

I hate when either of us have to leave on a mission. Anxiety immediately took over when he got a text about a new mission this morning.

"But Shizune did say it was A rank. So it should be fairly simple." I roll my eyes at what he thinks is simple.

I pluck a couple of the wilted roses that Kakashi had given me for my birthday, out of the vase and throw them away.

"I hope you're not gone too long."

I walk over to the kitchen table where he's seated and taking another bite of his cereal. He pushes his chair out just enough for me to squeeze myself onto his lap. His hand finds the bare skin on my thigh, lightly caressing it. I take the spoon from him and steal a bite from out of his bowl.

He chuckles and nuzzles his face into the crook of my neck as I take one more bite.

"Do you plan on putting pants on today? Or are you trying to keep me from leaving the apartment?" He mumbles softly against my neck.

His warm breath tickles my skin, raising goosebumps over my body.

"Is it working?" I lean back against his chest, feeling his fingers trace my underwear where it sits on my hipbone.

"It is." He says.

Since the night that Kakashi apologized to me and gave me my necklace, he hasn't acted the way he had last week. In fact, I've felt a new sense of connectedness with him since then.

The morning after, I pestered him about what had been bothering him since he said he would be willing to tell me after my birthday.

He explained to me that he was worried about a mission that Sasuke was on and that he wasn't able to tell me about it in depth because of Lady Tsunade's orders.

It put my mind at ease. And from what I can tell, it put his at ease as well. He did spend some late nights in the office this past weekend, but he no longer felt closed off to me.

At least that's what it feels like.

He doesn't seem as on edge.

"But I'm going to be late if you don't get this sweet ass off of me." He grabs a firm handful of my butt as he pushes me up from his lap.

I turn to him and pout.

"Fine, I guess. Leave me." I let out a dramatic sigh, making him laugh.

"Here. You're going to the market right?" He holds his debit card out to me and I nod my head.

I walk over to the fridge and grab the list of things we need. I place the list and his card on the kitchen counter so I won't forget either one.

"I'll see you in a bit then?" He says, wrapping one arm around my waist.

"Okay. I love you." I reach up to give him a quick kiss. He turns and heads to the front door.

"Love you too."

Kakashi's POV:

"We haven't been on a mission together in years." Asuma says as he walks next to me on our way to meet up with Ari.

The meeting with Tsunade was quick. A simple A rank escort mission. Shouldn't be too much trouble.

"That's right. It has been quite some time." I mumble.
