Nobles gossip
The debutante princess... slapped the other princess while the gift is in her hands.
"How dare you stand in front of me and give a shabby gift."
Jennette threw the gift and stomped on it, not knowing that it is from the royal treasury, that has been kept for years.
The wrapping tore up and revealed a broken glass case that has a necklace with a green pendant.
Looking at the colour of the pendant, she suddenly remembers when they were small, the moment she looked at her reflection on the lake's water, it showed that her eyes are green, not jewelled.
"Jennette de Alger Obelia!" A loud voice echoed throughout the ballroom that made everyone flinched.
Jennette shudder at the voice and slowly looked at where it came from, she saw her father, he had an angry face.
Claude strutted towards them. Athanasia was shocked at what Jennette did to her, her left cheek stung, her hand covered the mark of the debutante's hand.
Once Claude had reached them he grabbed a hold of Athanasia's hand and removed it from her face, revealing a bright red hand mark.
"Kneel." His gaze upon her was chilly, Jennette can feel the murderous aura around him.
Jennette didn't heed the Emperor's orders, instead, she stood by her ground. The nobles looked ashamed for her.
The Emperor looked at her coldly, he then ordered Felix to take Athanasia back to the Emerald Palace, and have the head maid aid her swollen cheek.
Felix nodded and guided Athanasia out of the ballroom, she had one last glance at the scenery behind her. She saw Claude looking at Jennette with so much hate and the debutante princess cowers in fear.
Then, two knights came up to them and grabbed Jennette's arms and forcefully made her kneel after she did not heed his order.
The other debutantes were afraid to do anything, they were also angry that their debut to society has to be filled with this memory.
"First, Princess Athanasia prepared a gift for your debutante and you dare humiliate the name of a royal family member in a public event?!"
"And now, you dare disobey my orders?!"
Jennette slowly glances up and saw the hate in her father's eyes.
"B-but father... s-she t-tried to r-ruin my p-party...!"
Her statement made the nobles avoid looking at her, in their mind, the debutante princess was trying to convince the Emperor... that her actions are acceptable.
"S-she ru-ruined my p-party!"
She screamed, making everyone inside the ballroom feel more humiliated.
Claude scoffed at her and abruptly walked back up to the top of the staircase. Claude wanted to reach for a nearby sword or anything breakable and threw it in Jennette's direction, but he suppressed it, thinking of a hefty punishment for her, according to her actions.
"This debutante party became a mess. Princess Jennette humiliated and disgraced a member of the royal party, making it uncomfortable for the other debutante who attended."
The other debutantes avoid eye contact with everyone even with the Emperor, they were filled with shame.
It was a shame that their debutante to high society was ruined.
"Then, she dares to disobey the Emperor's orders. She'll be punished accordingly. If you wish to continue or stop the party, it will be up to your choice."
Claude glanced at Jennette who was breathing heavily. "You'll be summoned to my office and will receive your punishment for your recent behaviour."
He coldly said before he turned his back to her and left.
The party became a mess, the adult nobles started gossiping about Jennette's behaviour.
'I can't believe what she did! Princess Athanasia was just giving her gift personally!'
'She should feel honoured since the Princess spare time to prepare a gift for her!'
The whispers of the nobles were loud enough for her to hear. Jennette composed herself and smiled as if nothing happened.
She turned back to the young man who asked her for a dance, "Shall we dance now?"
The man flinched, his eyes were looking around them before he sighed. "U-uhm. Forgive me Princess, but I think I have somewhere else to go."
The man said before leaving a stunned Jennette. He ran back to his friends and started talking— gossiping about the scene earlier.
'I thought she was nice! I almost asked her for a dance!'
The young men who were gossiping kept glancing back at her.
Jennette got out of her trance and smiled. She walked until she stood in the middle of the ballroom.
"Thank you for attending my debutante!"
Her speech was all over the place, she was thanking, then suddenly telling a story, then back to thanking.
Her teachers who also attended felt ashamed. She was doing well before.
The attendees endured the long day, and when it was time to go home, they politely left the ballroom, once they were out of Jennette's sight their faces were filled with shame.
'How could Princess Jennette say it was only her debutante?! We're also debutantes!'
The other debutante complained while going out of the ballroom. They couldn't believe that the Princess who was timid when she was a child grew ignorant.
They expected that maybe the two princesses will grow to like each other, but their expectations were stomped on the ground.
Once everyone has left, Jennette— who was left inside the ballroom with a few maids, dropped to the floor.
"P-princess...?"
"Leave! Get out of my sight!"
The servants and a few knights that were around left after hearing such an angry command.
"Why?! Why did you have to attend to a place that you're not needed?!"
She glanced back at the necklace that was apparently near her and felt angrier. The green-coloured pendant irritated her.
"Why did you ruin my debutante, Athanasia?!"
She shouted. Her heart was filled with Anger, her subconscious tried to reason her mind, saying that she was just being courteous and nice. But it clouded her judgement.
"You'll pay for ruining my debutante! You'll pay!" She screamed with determination, not knowing someone heard what she screamed, and was now off to the Emperor to say what the person heard.
