Overwhelming thoughts.. (part 2)

Penelope came back inside Jennette's room and grabbed her then immediately teleported her to one of the ballroom's vacant rooms.

Those rooms are used for resting, if nobles grew tired during the party, they can rest there and discuss gossip or business-related topics.

"You want me to stay here?! I want to enter the doors with an escort!"

Penelope scowled at the brunette who didn't seem to mind that she's giving her own mother a headache with the constant ranting of her whims.

"Just stay here. That's final."

She said before leaving and making sure the room is locked. She needed to make sure that none of her plans will be spoiled. She worked hard to get this far, and she'll not go down without a fight.

"Where were you?"

Penelope flinched a little and saw Anastacius glaring at her.

"Somewhere."

That answer made him raise an eyebrow at Penelope couldn't be bothered to give out more details. She felt uneasy inside the ballroom, even if they were hiding in the shadows.

She should be glad that she wasn't seen, or else everyone will be thrown abruptly for seeing a supposed dead woman walking amongst them. But there's an underlying itch inside her head, trying to guide her towards the center of the ballroom, and announcing her presence.

'She should be there! Having all these peasants clinging to me, not hiding in the mere shadows!'

Young girls are happily chatting, saying that they can have a different memory of their debutante during the other princess' debutante.

Some are talking about how businesses are going, expansions, etc. Penelope couldn't care less if one of them go bankrupt one of these days.

She wandered further away from Anastacius while staying in the shadows, only to flinch when she came face to face with a boy who had black hair and ruby red eyes.

"Did you enjoy your vacations? I'm quite surprised where you went." Lucas said with a smug look on his face.

That was the moment that Penelope remembered the rope around her ankle.

She hissed before she walked past him. Lucas sneered at her retreating back, the knowledge of the rope brought her back from whatever she was planning. His ruby coloured eyes scanned the whole room for a brunette, but found none.

"Entering, the debutante, Princess Athanasia de Alger Obelia! Together with her escort, His Majesty, Emperor Claude de Alger Obelia!"

Inside one of the vacant rooms, Jennette was internally screaming when she heard the announcement. She kept pacing back and forth waiting for the doors to open and reveal her so-called mother, guiding her out of this cramped room.

She was nervous, if her father found out that She entered the party without an invitation nor an order, she could be punished.

But why wasn't she invited in the first place? Or ordered? For her Debutante, sure she didn't invite Athanasia, but Claude ordered the appearance of Athanasia.

She cracked the door slightly and saw both the Emperor and the Debutante walking down the stairs, Jennette grew envious of Athanasia's appearance.

Athanasia was walking down the stairs in a beautiful pink and white flowy dress, with tons of small flower decorations on it. Her vibrant blonde hair bouncing as she walks, and her jewelled eyes shining brightly under the chandelier's light.

And above all, she was holding on to the arm of the man Jennette wished to look at her with a proud gaze, their father — her father.

Jennette saw the first dance of the debutante with the Emperor. She also saw the Nobles' gazes on them and felt more envious about it.

The duo was fluttering around the dancefloor in a graceful manner. Jennette saw how she almost tripped, and hoped to fall face first on the floor, but was carried in the air by the Emperor.

She hated to admit it, but by looking at Athanasia, she could see the invisible wall between, as if they were two opposite sides of a coin.

One who grew up in the hands of a maiden and was soon brought back to the palace, was taught how to be a proper royal by teaching her etiquette, dance, politics and even graced by the Emperor's affection.

While the other side was the complete opposite. She was the one who lived her life in the palace but was always pushed aside by everyone, the knights, the maids and even her father. As if there was a hidden order to ignore her as a rightful princess.
