"I had to put those clothes in the wash.  Felt like the killer was... all over me, watching me, hating me, itching for a... A knife or a rope or... my neck." I say to Sam as he sits in my living room

"You didn't get any sense of who it was?" he asks

"Just the voices. But there was something familiar." I whisper and he shakes his head

"I think we should call the police." he states and I laugh

"And what would I say? "Sheriff Dearborne, Andy Bellefleur I saw a woman die, "I just happened to be in somebody else's brain at the time"?" I scoff and he sighs

"Did you get a good look at her? I mean, what was she like?" he asks

"Young, pretty, with... with an apron." I reply and he sighs

" Well, do you want to call Bill? I mean,  it might make you feel better." he asks

"No. He would have felt how scared I was. He would've known I was in danger. If he didn't show up tonight, he's not coming back." I reply and Sam smiles before brushing his hand against my face in a soothing matter. I guess he was trying to make me feel better.

"You hear from Tara?" I ask as his hands drift down towards my shoulders

"Nope." he replies and I smile

"Well... Good night." I say and I get up and move from the couch. The next morning I was up quite early might be from all the death but I couldn't sleep recently

"Morning. I didn't know you were up." Sam says as he walks through the kitchen shirtless and I quickly look away

"Eggs and sausage warm in the oven." I say

"Oh, thanks." he replies going to the oven

"I am sick and tired of waiting around to get strangled." I state and he smiles

"That's not gonna happen while I'm here." he states

"You can't spend 24 hours a day with me for the rest of my life." I say and he looks up again

"Sure, I can." he whispers and i almost blush

"I want to find that guy before he finds me. The voices in my sleep last night they were showing me images. A girl  Her clothes, the apron, it was a uniform. She was a waitress and there was a tag. Her name was Cindy. And the restaurant name was something about pies. Party Pies or... Patty Pies." i sigh

"Wait, you mean Big Patty's Pie House?" he asks "Off I-49, way south, near Bunkie." he continues and I nod before noticing the look of concern on his face

"You don't have to come with me." I say but he sighs

"Yeah, I do. Come on. Eat up, you need fuel." he says and I laugh

"I'm not hungry." I sigh

"Don't sass me." he smirks

"You're not the boss of me." I begin before I flick my eyes up to his and saw the shit eating  grin on his face "Right. You are." I say smirking at him and he laughs. I quickly get ready before heading to the Pie place. When we finally get there the waitress just smiles at us

"No, ma'am, no, sir, I don't know any Cindy. But I can recommend the fried apple pie, the frozen Hawaiian pie, the chocolate pecan praline pie, the chess pie, the seven-layer Jell-O pie..." she says listing a number of pies

"They'll have the peanut butter pie and the Spunky Hollow honey pineapple pie" a man say from the counter

"We will?" Sam asks

"You won't get nothing from her. She only been here... two weeks. Come from three generations as dumb as rocks. Hell, they named her after a motorcycle." The older man says smiling at us

"That's real interesting, but we... If you want to know anything about Cindy Marshall," I say and he nods

"I'll talk to you. And I'll eat that pie too. Buster Boisseau." He says introducing himself

"Meghan Stackhouse, Sam Merlotte." I say introducing us

"I met her two years ago. She moved into town with her brother a couple months before...but somebody murdered that little gal. Just choked the life right out of her. Poor thing." he sighs

"Did they find who did it?" I ask

"Nope. It's a mystery." he says

"What was her brothers name?" I ask and he sighs

"Drew Marshall" he replies and that's what lead us to the police station but the guy wasn't very helpful and we decided to go home.

"Why's the way home always longer than the way there?" I complain and Sam laughs

"Now that'd be philosophy, and I'm a simple guy." he says and I laugh

"What a load of horse pucky. Simple is one thing that you are not." I say and he smirks

"I disagree. I may be a shape-shifter but I want what every man wants. You know, a good life, a good woman." he says placing his hand over my shoulders

"Do you love Tara?" I ask and he retracts his arm

"You know, I like her a lot. I care about her, for sure. I've been trying to love her, but, you know, she don't make it easy." he says and I laugh

"Well, she can't help it. When you've never had much love..." I start but he interrupts

"Oh, I know, I know. Believe me, I know, but... It's not working. You know, we're friends, is all. And I'm not so easy to love, either." he says and I sigh

"You're wrong." I say and he sighs

"I am?" he asks innocently and I nod "Do you love Bill?"

"I think I do. But... where is he? If vampire politics are more important to him than me... I don't know. I'm so mad at him I could spit." I say and Sam smiles

"I can see why you would be." he replies

"I'm sorry you're having to drive so far." I say

"I don't mind. I love to ride in the car." he says and I laugh so hard i clutch my stomach

"Of course you do. Go on, hang your head right out the window, if you feel like it." I say and he joins in with the laughter

"I appreciate that but it's a private pleasure." he says and I smirk

"One day when all this is over, I'm gonna save up and rent a convertible, take it to the Gulf. Lie on the beach, bake in the sun..." I say

"It's a date." he replies and I blush slightly

"Do you know any car songs?" I ask changing the subject. When we finally arrive home we sit in front of the TV watching a movie

"It sounds strange under the circumstances, but I had a good time today." I say smirking and he laughs

"It's the company." he whispers

"Must be." I reply

"Hey, that says something for us. We can enjoy ourselves even when we're trying to find a murderer." he says and I laugh

"You are fun.  It's one of the reasons I'm still working for you." I say

"Yeah?" he says getting up

"Well, it's not the tips or the high-class clientele." I say and he leans in closer to me

"You know, it was probably the best day of my life when you walked in looking for a job." he whispers so close that I can feel his breath against mine

"Quit it." I smirk feeling my breath hitch as he starts playing with my hair

"No, I mean it." he replies and I nod

"I know you do." I whisper

"Are you looking in my head?" he asks and I shake my head

"I'm looking in your heart." I whisper and then he places his lips onto mine but we quickly pull back as the door swings open and I see Bill wrestle Sam to the ground

"Stop! Stop fighting, you stupid men!" I scream throwing a vase over Bills head

"He had his hands over you." Bill growls

"She's not your property." Sam cries

"Shut up. I can speak for myself. You left me alone with no promise to come back, and attack the man who's helping keep me safe? How dare you?" I scream

"He's helping because I asked him to." Bill growls back getting in my face

"Get out!" I screech but he stands there

"If you knew what I had done to return to you..." he begins and I feel myself become sick of it

"I rescind your invitation." I say and he looks up at me as if Ive killed his mother

"Megs, don't." he replies but he moves back towards the front door anyways and I follow "Please. Meghan" he cries but I shut the door in his face

"Can't you see what he's really like?" Sam cries pointing to the door

"I've got a killer, a vampire and a shape-shifter on my plate. Right about now, I'm not thinking about being with anybody." I say angrily and I point to the front door
