Peppermint

I am a peppermint-aholic so I figured my MC is too

"I have a surprise for you B" I said one morning after breakfast
"What is it?"
"Well if I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise" I laughed
I brought him out to the old shed and flig open the doors.
"Wow! what is it?"
"It's a four wheeler"
"Oh cool!"
"You have no idea what that is do you?"
"Nope" he laughed
"Hang on. I'll show you" i hopped on and told him to sit behind me and hold on. "You can hold onto the rack behind you or you can hold on to my waist." I was happy he chose to hold onto me. I started it up and took off as fast as I could. I drove back into the woods where there are trails.
"Do you want to drive?"
"Can I?'
"Yeah slide up" I said hopping off. I showed him the throttle and brake and how and when to shift.
"Are you getting on?"
"Not until you get used to driving a bit. I don't have a death wish" I said laughing
After a few tries he got the hang of it enough for me to join him
"Alright, just don't kill us now" I said laughing
I held him tightly and breathed in his scent. It was always the same no matter what he had been doing. Clean laundry and sandalwood. I found myself paying no attention to where we were going, just wondering how he smelled so good all the time.
"Are you ok?"
We stopped? How long had we been stopped? I was still holding Barnaby with my face buried in his shirt
"Um. yeah. I'm fine" I said blushing
"Let's walk for a little bit" he held out his hand to help me off the four wheeler.
We started walking and just didn't let go of each other's hands.
"Tell me something I don't know about you" I said
"Hmm... I think you know me pretty well.... my middle name is Abernathy"
"Really??" I giggled "I mean it's a fine middle name"
"It's ok. It's pretty awful" he chuckled "What about you?"
"My middle name?"
"Or anything I don't know about you"
"Umm.... well my middle name is Renee, but that's kind of boring. I LOVE peppermint. Like LOVE. Ever notice the little jar Lolly keeps next to the sofa? It's full of peppermint. Lolly and Pops hate peppermint. But they have to fill it every few days"
"I noticed you smell like peppermint. I just thought you had good oral hygiene"
"Well I do try, but no look..." I pulled a handful of peppermints out of my pocket
"I try to sneak them so people don't notice and I'm pretty good at hiding my obsession" I laughed
"Peppermint Toads are my favorite candy"
"I didn't know that"
"Yeah remember last year when we had a duel so you could convince me to join you? The only reason I did it was because Tulip bribed me with Peppermint Toads....which she still owes me by the way"
"I didn't know you had to be bribed to talk to me" I pouted
"Does it count as a bribe if I didn't get my Toads?"
"Yes!" I said
"Well I guess that shows you how stupid I am."
"You're not stupid. You didn't know me"
"What kind of guy needs to be bribed to talk to a beautiful girl? A stupid one" he laughed
"It worked out in the end" I nudged him "Race you back to the four wheeler?"
"You think you can out run me?"
He didn't even finish that sentence before I started running
"Not fair" he laughed
It didn't take long for him to catch up. He ran up behind me and picked me up, flung me over his shoulder and kept running.
"There. it's a tie" he said as we reached to four wheeler
I laughed. "I thought for sure I'd be faster"
"I'm like a foot taller than you"
"yeah but I'm smaller and more aerodynamic"
"Aerodynamic? Is that a fancy word for short?"
I shook my head laughing "Just get on. I'm driving this time"
He sat behind me, held my waist and kissed the top of my head.
