BANDAGE
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

"She should be back by now."

It was lonely in the Serpent Hashira's estate.

People seemed to be fearful of his cold demeanor and his hissing snake, for very few were actually willing to serve him. After all, the only servants he had now were Kakushi that were forced to be here under Oyakata-sama. If not for them, the only souls in the estate would consist of merely Iguro Obanai and his snake.

However, Iguro never really felt lonely—up until now, of course. His past made him used to surviving on his own, and it kept his individuality as a person. The only other entity he trusted was his snake, who he deemed as his best friend.

But that all changed when he met (L/N) (Y/N), another young Demon Slayer he was supposed to train under his wing as his Tsuguko.

Goodness, he wasn't supposed to fall in love, and he wasn't supposed to love someone love one of his students. Sure, they both of them were roughly around the same age, but he was still her mentor. Focusing on training without favoring her proved difficult, especially when they stood at a close proximity.

But once she became a Hashira like him, he swore he would romance her—it was his goal not as a Demon Slayer, but as a person.

(L/N) was sent out on a mission to slay a demon all on her own; this was only the second trial of this sort. She had gone on a mission like this before, and she came back victorious. Iguro couldn't help but be proud that she was getting stronger (one of the reasons being that she would become a Hashira faster so he could confess to her, but he would never admit that).

This time, however, she wasn't back at his estate yet.

The village the demon was located at wasn't too far of. It would take less than half a day for her to travel there, and it definitely should've only taken her a single night to slay that demon. She left early in the morning so she'd have one night to slay the demon, so she'd be set to return by the second night.

But morning was already approaching after the second night—Iguro stayed up the entire time waiting for her return.

Dear God, he was anxious. His couldn't stop his hands from shaking, and he hated it. His own snake couldn't even calm him down.

(L/N) should've been back hours ago. The starry night sky was already beginning to lighten, and there was still no sign of her. Iguro had never been this worried about another person before.

He sat atop a small zabuton until he heard a loud thud coming right from the front doors of the estate.

Without even thinking, he quickly rushed over to the screen, sliding it open as fast as he could.

And there laid (L/N), his Tsuguko and love, bruised and bloodied on the floor on the brink of unconsciousness.

His arms immediately went to scoop her up, and he frantically called for his servants to help him treat the girl's wounds. The servants had never seen their master so emotional and distressed before, but they had quickly brushed away their surprise to aid the injured Demon Slayer.

Immediately after getting carried in, the last thing (L/N) saw was the blurry image of Iguro's worried eyes before she blacked out.

(E/C) eyes opened to a dim, blurry setting that eventually cleared into a candlelit room.

(L/N)'s first instincts were to sit up, but she immediately felt pain in doing so. She winced, her entire body screaming at her to lie back down.

A gentle hand placed itself down onto her shoulder, delicately guiding her to lay back down onto the futon in which her body rested. The pain all around her body still stung, and so with gritted teeth, her eyes immediately darted to the person that hand belonged to.

But the touch was so gentle, that she never expected Iguro Obanai, the Serpent Hashira and her mentor, to be sitting there. He was not the delicate type of person, so this was an oddity.

The Tsuguko opened her mouth to acknowledge him, but her hoarse throat did not allow her to speak.

"Don't worry," he hushed her—and even his voice was careful and kind. "Don't overwork yourself." And with that, he reached for a cup of water, and helped her sit up to drink.

"How long was I out?" she immediately questioned once the water flowed down her dry throat.

"It's already night time again," he answered. "You were unconscious the entire day."

If (Y/N) was being honest, the mood between them was so odd at the moment. She did not feel like a Tsuguko talking to her mentor, but instead, she felt like she was conversing with him on a more personal level.

"You look tired," she remarked, observing his slow movements and the weariness in his his eyes.

His mere response was, "I was here the whole day, of course I'm tried." But he looked down and shuffled with the items on the mat as he spoke.

"You were taking care of me the entire time?"

At that, Iguro grew silent. It was obvious what his answer was, considering he was unable to deny it. And even despite his bandages, (L/N) could see a flush of pale dusting the top of his cheeks. She smiled a tad at this, causing him to stubbornly turn away.

"Aw, you care about me," she teased. She attempted to make light out of her poor situation, and she hoped that her mentor would follow along.

"Something like that," he mumbled with a small scoff.

But as she laughed despite her injuries at his attitude, he couldn't help but smile under his own bandages.
