Ryujin POV
As night began to fall, we all headed back to our rooms.
I was alone in the dark, hunched over as I sat
on my bed. Usually when I'm like this, I tend to be calm but at a time like this, I can't—especially since I'm on some sort of hit list.My pet snow ferret scurried over to my side, rubbing her soft fur up against me.
"Do you think I'll be okay," I asked her, knowing I won't get a response. But all I got was a chitter—any response is a better than none.
As I was about to pack my things, there was a knock at my door. I flinched at the sound but quickly recomposed myself to answer it. Once I opened the door, I was pulled into a hug, an apologetic hug.
"I need you," Su said, her voice almost cracking into a million pieces. She handed me a familiar piece of material; it was the folder! "I'm sorry. I should've never doubt you," she cried, "I should've never yelled. What I did was stupid and wrong of me. I hope you could forgive me."
I pulled away from the hug and place my hands on her shoulders. "It's okay," I reassured her, "If I had a loved one like that I would've done the same." The betrayal of Ai Wei must've hurt much more than I expected.
"Thank you, Ryujin," she said, wiping away her tears, "Can you really help track down Ai Wei?"
I nodded, "Yes. I'll do anything I can to help."
In the back of my mind, I wanted to find Zaheer and have my questions answered like "Why me" or "What have I done". I feel my existence shouldn't really have been known of.
"Okay, I have a jeep ready in the east gate for you. Korra, Mako, Bolin and Asami will be there," she explained, "And you don't have to worry about Lin. I can handle her in the morning."
"You really thought this through," I said, somewhat jokingly, "I'll be in there soon. I just need to pack."
Su nodded and exited my room, leaving me alone again. "I guess this is goodbye? Or do you want to come," I smiled at Rina. She chittered around in circles with her tail wagging. I grabbed a bag and opened it for her to hop into.
"Let's go."
I exited my room as stealthily as I could, hoping I wouldn't run into Chief. From the corner of my eye, I notice a shine—a metal shine. It was Chief! I ran into the nearest room and hid there till the coast was clear. It took awhile since she was talking to a guard but I happened to make it out.
I tippy-toed my way out the room and rushed to the east gate where the jeep was prepared. It seems that it was only me there and no one else. I hopped into the back and waited for the remaining four to come. But as soon as I got settled in, they were already making their way. I waved but it seems they were too preoccupied with running. Korra was on Naga, ready to go, and the others quickly hopped into the jeep.
The car started before I could comprehend anything and we were off.
"Oh hey, Jin," Bolin greeted, "You're here too? That's quite a surprise!"
I nodded silently and gave a half grin. "Yes, I also brought the folder with me. Our best bet is to search around the Earth Kingdom," I explained, "A lot of Earth Kingdom Royals have these dates next to them. I'm pretty sure those are dates of when they're suppose to die." I flipped over to the page of where the Fire Nation page was suppose to be.
"Let me just..."
I reached down into my pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. "Here," I mumbled, saying my actions while I do so, "I'll put this here."
When I read the paper, I searched down to my name. The date next to it had already past.
"Ryujin," Mako said, "It says you're suppose to be dead already."
"I know," I sternly reacted, "And now, I have my answer. Take this." I handed the folder to Mako, not wanting to have a second glance at this. He hesitantly took it and stashed it somewhere—I didn't look where.
The night was still young but tiredness was beginning to consume me. I had to fall asleep.
"I'm just going to take a quick nap," I said. I laid my head against the cushioned seat and closed my eyes.
-
Fire. Smoke. The most prominent smell that's been reoccurring throughout my entire life.
There's not much to remember from it but every time I do, it always leads me back to them.
Mom and Dad.
Who is my mom and dad?
The folder!
-
"Mako! Hand me that folder right now," I exclaimed, waking up Bolin, "Sorry."Mako handed me the folder and I quickly looked back to the Fire Nation page.
"Hiro Higashi and Kozumi Higashi," I read quietly, "My parents."
"Thank you," I said and handed it back to him.
"Why did you wake up so suddenly," he asked as he put away the folder.
"I was somewhat half-asleep and you know when you have like those sleepy hallucinations and you start to hear things," I halfway explained. There was a confused expression on Mako's face but I could care less. "Well, it was like that," I finished off.
The night was still present but I couldn't go back to sleep. We constantly checked every town we came by and with Naga's nose, we began to grow closer.
Each town was asleep while we walked through it. It felt like we were intruding but I had to keep in mind that it was for a good cause.
We came across this one town that was dead silent. No birds or animals but the buildings were intact. "This place is kinda creepy," Bolin shivered. "I can have Rina scout the area for you," I suggested, "As well as me."
"No." Mako quickly answered, "I- I mean we can't have you scout around but Rina can. You're on the list and it's dangerous that you and Korra are out right now." I raised a brow to his reasoning but ignored it. "If you say so, but I can handle myself," I told him, "If you're too uncomfortable then come with me."
I hopped out the jeep, followed by Mako. With our flames, we produce a light from our hands and explored the place.
I knocked on a door but with just one knock, the door fell.
"Oops. I gue-," but I couldn't believe my eyes. I read about her in the books. Her upbringing and her downfall. Her golden eyes resembled the ones I saw back then when we first met—when she first taught me about that blue flame.
I walked into the room and saw her sitting there on the floor. It was like she was waiting for us. There was a faint Red Lotus mark on the wall but I knew she wasn't apart of them. She's just too power hungry for that, no matter how much she's changed.
"Hello, Ryujin."
"Azula."
