Look What You Made Me Do, the first single of the album, was released on october 24th, 2018, officially ending min's three month hiatus. prior to the album's release, min had been involved in a dating scandal with korean singer, songwriter, and dancer park jimin and was forced to go on hiatus after receiving a tremendous amount of criticism, hate, and death threats, and disappeared entirely from social media and the public. during this hiatus, she created the single and began working on the album HEADLINES with producers jack antonoff, dj swivel, yoo young-jin, and more, and in late october, she quietly released the single, not having said anything prior or afterwards. unlike previous releases, she did not promote the single through press interviews.
3 months later, she released the lead single HIP and albumHEADLINES (stylized in all uppercase & italicized). released on january 18th, 2019 by stone music entertainment and sony music entertainment, it is the 3rd studio album by korean singer, dancer, and rapper min. the main theme of the album was influenced by excessive media gossip and hate. two other themes came from that: the growth and the vulnerability.
