Arjun sat on his couch in his bungalow, with his phone in his right hand. His screen showed the resignation letter that Mayera had mailed.
He sipped on his glass of whiskey and closed his eyes. The events that occurred three days ago in his office replayed in his mind for the hundredth time.
"What the fuck is going on here?" A voice boomed loudly.
Arjun opened his eyes and found his best friend in front of him.
"How did you get in?" Arjun asked.
"That's not important. What's important is what is going on here?" Veer eyed the entire living room in disgust. It was a complete mess with things thrown around carelessly.
Arjun decided to ignore him and closed his eyes again.
"Arjun, I am asking you something. As soon as I came back, I went to your office. The receptionist told me that Mayera quit three days ago and you've not been to office since then."
"I didn't feel like working." He nonchalantly replied.
"Didn't feel like working! Since when have you started feeling like not working?" Veer was going crazy thinking of all the possibilities that could have happened.
"Why did Mayera quit?" He asked again.
"Because she found herself a guy and didn't need me anymore."
Veer completely lost it. "What is that even supposed to mean?"
Arjun told him everything that happened that day and by the end of the story Veer looked like he would explode in anger any second now.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARJUN SINGHANIA. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A WITTY BUSINESSMAN LIKE YOU CAN ACTUALLY BE THIS STUPID WHEN IT CAME TO LOVE."
"There is no love. She is with someone else."
"For the love of God, he was her brother!" Veer exclaimed in frustration.
To say that Arjun was shocked would be an understatement.
"Br-brother?"
"Yes, brother." Before leaving for Italy, Veer had gone to say bye to Mayera in her cabin and there she had told him that the guy was actually his brother and they both laughed over the fact that Arjun is so jealous of her Giraffe.
Arjun's mind shut down. He couldn't believe what he had done. His experiences from the past and the misunderstanding from the present had combined together and made him do the greatest sin ever.
How could he say all those things to her? To a girl so innocent and pure. How the fuck could he do this?
Veer felt a little bad for his friend because he knew the way he behaved was because of his wound he got in his past, but that didn't mean Veer would forgive him so easily. Even though he was wronged before, it didn't give him the privilege to do what he did with Mayera. And in fact, he was proud of Mayera for being strong enough to walk away from the man she loved, because self respect comes first. If a man can't respect you when things get a little tough, he doesn't deserve your love.
Arjun was drowning in guilt and he knew that he'd die if he didn't apologize to her right away. He knew she'd not even want to see his face after what he'd done, but he had to try.
He texted Manav, his temporary assistant to get Mayera's address from the employees file.
By the time the address came, he took the fastest shower of his life and got dressed in a jiffy.
"Are you coming with me?" He asked Veer while grabbing his car keys.
"And getting to see your ass beaten into a pulp by Mayera? Wouldn't miss it for the world." Veer excitedly grabbed an apple from the dining table and they both left.
Arjun rang the bell for the fifth time.
"Why isn't she opening?" Arjun was getting impatient.
"Maybe she saw you through the peephole and is getting her knife sharp enough to slit your throat." Veer replied munching on his apple, and looked at him with his most serious expression.
Arjun rolled his eyes at him and ringed the bell again.
"Excuse me, are you looking for someone?" A middle aged woman came out of the opposite apartment.
"Um, yes. I am looking for Mayera Sinha." Arjun said.
"Mayera? But it's been two days since she left?"
"Left? Left where?"
"I don't know but she emptied her apartment and left with all her stuff. She isn't coming back."
Arjun's heart sighed in disappointment as soon as he heard that.
After thanking the lady, they left the building.
"Now what? Her employees file had only this address." Veer asked buckling up his seatbelt.
Arjun picked up his phone and called his most trusted PI, Raman.
"Hello, Raman. I have a job for you."
