"They're leaving tonight," Derek says, his disappointment evident through the phone. I still haven't seen him, since learning about Scott and Gerard's little alliance. It's not safe. I wouldn't trust that I'm not being watched constantly.

"All of them?" I ask. Derek's betas are feeling the pressure of what it means to be a werewolf now. They've been talking about leaving Derek's pack. Skipping town. Running.

"Erica and Boyd for sure. Isaac is on the fence," he says, and I push back the twinge of happiness I feel at the idea of not having to see Erica anymore. Nevertheless I feel awful for Derek. Everything he's done for them, and they leave when he needs them the most. And as for Scott . . . I told him about my brother's betrayal, and it turns out, he already knew. He caught him and Gerard talking at the police station that night, and he hadn't told me either, wanting to "keep me out of him and Scott's drama."

"Jackson will be playing in the game tonight," I tell him.

The championship game, starting in a mere hour and a half. It'd be hard to believe that Gerard will let it be anything close to anticlimactic, especially because rather than giving up Derek's location, I gave my boyfriend a warning about Gerard's intentions—and his undercover agent.

"I'll be nearby if you need me," he says, causing me to roll my eyes.

"That doesn't seem like a good idea."

"It'll be fine. I'm gonna go, I'll let you get ready. Talk to you later." Derek hangs up the phone without waiting for my response. He's not much of a phone talker.

I take a few minutes to get ready, hearing Mom doing the same in her room. Due to the fact that it's the championship game, Scott and Stiles have been at school for a few hours already, preparing. We decided that bringing Mom to the game would be the best bet at keeping her safe. Keeping her close. Close to us, but also close to Jackson. Once the both of us are ready, we hop in her car and drive over to the school in silence. She hasn't said much more about the situation with Gerard a few days ago, or what happened at the police station, but she hasn't been locking herself in her room anymore.

The parking lot is already packed nearly full when we pull in, and there are people everywhere. If Gerard is going to do something tonight, it will be one bold move. We push through several strange faces to get to the cold bleachers where we set our things down. I zip my jacket up, the night air already bringing me shivers.
