Chapter Twenty Three

****

Beads of sweat ran down my face as the three of us walked up to what looked to be a closed down gas station in the middle of nowhere.

"Locked." Stiles groaned as he attempted to open the door.

I lightly tapped his shoulder, gesturing to the closed sign that hung right in front of his face

I lightly tapped his shoulder, gesturing to the closed sign that hung right in front of his face. "This does indeed say closed and there's isn't a soul around so..."

"You got a twenty?"

The sound of chains rang from behind us as Scott attempted to get to the gas pump itself. "Scotto? Have a twenty?"

He rummaged through his wallet, handing me the cash before going back to his original task. "Here ya go." I said, handing the cash to Stiles who just put it in the door for whoever would maybe be coming back at some point.

As Scott managed to release the chains, Stiles was quick to begin filling up the gas canister we had thankfully had in the back of the jeep. Silence filled the space around us as a sort of tension seemed to be building.

Then it was like both the silence and tension were broken at the same time, Stiles finally speaking up. "There was a pin."

"Huh?" Scott's brow furrowed.

"There was one little metal pin attached to the scaffolding. He was trying to pull me down." He was finally telling the story about what happened with Donavan.

Realization filled Scott's eyes. "He was trying to kill you..."

"Yes-" Stiles continued. "So then I pulled the pin, and all these metal braces came down...one of them just, it just went right through him."

"Why didn't you think you could tell me?"

A heavy sigh left Stiles' lips before he spoke again. "It was just the way you were looking at me that night. You know, you're standing there with a wrench in your hand, you're looking at me like I just bashed you in the head with it. You know, like I'd broken your sacred rule and that's it, there's no going back."

"I know the difference." Scott was sincere, which made my heart happy considering I know how hard this probably was for Stiles to do.

"What?"

"What?"
