Chapter Fourteen
****
The moment I stepped into the elevator it was like I had stepped into a portal, a portal that I would never want to step into. Confusion filled every fiber of my body as I gave my surroundings a glance. I was in Eichen, there was no doubt about that, but why and how?
This specific part of Eichen wasn't as creepy as others, but don't get me wrong, the whole place had the vibe regardless. But something was for sure off, normally the second I get around Eichen my abilities are triggered and my head is filled with voices and screaming, but this time there was only the sound of my own voice bouncing around. It was oddly quiet until one specific voice echoed around the walls.
"Well, how long is this gonna take?"
Mom? I thought to myself as her voice made its way down the hallway. I hadn't even realized my feet had taken off into the direction her voice had come from until the next voice was clearly more audible.
"It shouldn't be much longer, someone is going to retrieve your mothers things now. I just need you to sign some paperwork."
"Someone should go check on the kids." Dad? "I'll be right-"
As I watched the scene unfold before me, a child darted past my side making the ends of my dress do a complete Marilyn Monroe. My head shot towards the child, more confusion washing over me as the little girl unknowingly glanced in my direction as if she was looking right past me.
That little girl was me, and who she was looking at just so happened to be kid Lydia who was chasing after kid me. "Autumn! I said you couldn't leave my side! You're gonna get us in..." She looked at our parents whose stern eyes were as big as golf balls. "...trouble."
"I have to let mom know what gran-" Lydia's small hand went over my mouth, her eyes pleading me to shut up. But, of course that didn't stop me, I pulled my head away from her once again able to clearly finish my sentence. "Stop Lydia! Mom needs to know what Grandma just told me!"
"What's going on here?" My dad gave Lydia a look before he crouched down to my kid self level, "Autumn, sweetie...Grandma is-"
"She's okay..." My little shoulders shrugged as my mom looked at me with tear rimmed eyes. My dad didn't stop me as I walked over to her, enveloping her in a hug. "Grandma just told me that she's okay, and for you not to cry anymore." I could hear myself whisper, "She said she would much rather be out of this place anyways." My mom smiled at me, but it was the kind of smile where she appreciated the thought my little brain had come up with in her mind to comfort her, but she of course didn't believe I had actually spoken to my grandma.
"That's very sweet of you to say, honey." The forced smile remained.
"It's not a message from me, mom." My younger self was bright, "She told me herself. She said she's still gonna be around even though she passed on from this place."
"Ah, I remember this day like it was yesterday..."
I jumped at the sudden presence next to me, "Grandma?"
"You know...this was the first time I spoke I to you after I died, the first time your abilities were really triggered."
"Wait...is this my memory?" I fully turned my body towards her, "I don't remember this, this really happened?"
My grandma smiled and gave a small nod before speaking, "Yes, this is your memory, sweetheart. See, both yours and Lydia's abilities were there when you were young, but very small...nonexistent for the most part. But when I was able to speak to you that day, that's when I knew that they were there for sure. I had my suspicions, but I always knew you were special, Autumn. I knew you were just like me."
