Ch. 32 "Bad News"

                                                          Bucky POV 

Kayden passed out just as we got on the jet, I mean full blown out passed out that I had to catch her before she hit the ground, 

I have her laying in my arms, her breathing shallow, 

Steve was piloting the jet, 

"Hurry Steve," I said 

"I am We're almost there," He said in a panicked voice 

Bruce was checking her pulse, 

"Her heart rate is slow," He said 

"Could be from getting thrashed around," He said 

I nodded, 

Steve landed the jet roughly, 

I got to my feet fast, 

"Get her to the lab fast I'm going to have to run some tests," Bruce said walking next to me briskly 

"What the hell happened out there," Fury said 

"Not the time," I said 

Tony walked in following us, 

We got to the lab, 

"Set her down on the table," Bruce said rushing getting supplies

I laid her on the table and she hissed in pain, kid must be hurting going up against that huge guy, I thought 

"Okay out, we need to work," Tony, 

"I'm not leaving her," I said 

"yes you are we promise we will do everything, but you need to give us space," Tony said 

"Come on Bucky," Steve said guiding me out of the room, 

We sat down in the hall, 

"We should have gotten there in time, none of this would have happened," I said 

"Hey we couldn't have known, know one could have," Steve said 

"How are we even going to keep her safe when she won't even let us," I said sighing, 

"I guess were going to have to show her that not everyone isn't out to get her, and maybe a little tough love," Steve said 

I sighed again, 

"I'm going to get us some coffee," He said standing up, 

I nodded too damn stressed to even care, 

                       Time Skip, 

I went from sitting in the hallway in a chair sipping coffee, to pacing back and forth, to trying to read a magazine, to back to pacing, to trying to make a paper airplane out of a piece of paper, 

twelve agonizing hours later the door opened,

Me and Steve both stood up, 

"Is she alright? why did she pass out?" I asked 

"Whoa, easy there tiger," Tony said 

I glared at him, 

"We need to talk," Bruce said 

Me and Steve looked at each other, 

"Follow us, so she can rest," Tony said 

We followed them into the next room, 

"Sit," Tony said setting up the holoscreen, 

Showing the x-rays, 

"She's got a exile burst fracture in her L3, L4 and L5 vertebrae, severing the spinal column," Bruce said 

"What?" I said 

"Guys it's not good," Bruce said 

"That's just the first of the bad news," Tony said 

"There's more?" Steve said 

"She also had major internal injuries, I really do not understand how she was still walking around, she's got several broken ribs, a fractured tailbone, the list goes on and on," Tony said 

"Will she heal?" Steve said 

"It's hard to say, remember she has a replicant serum in her DNA not the actual serum," Bruce said 

"We uh, don't know if she's going to be able to walk again," Tony said 

Me and Steve look at each other worried, 

"But there's still a chance right?" I asked 

"We don't know," Bruce said 

"Can we see her?" Steve said 

Bruce nodded, 

We walked in the lab seeing Kayden laying on a bed, wires connecting to her, keeping track of her vitals, a neck brace around her neck, cuts and bruising littering her skin, cast, on her arm her head wrapped in gauze, a oxygen mask over her mouth and nose, 

"This is bad," I said sitting next to her, 

Steve nodded, all we had to do was wait, wait for her to wake up, 

I sighed, 

                                    Kayden POV 

Beep, Beep, Beep, 

Everything hurt, 

Beep, Beep, Beep, 

It hurt to breathe, 

Beep, Beep, Beep, 

My eyelids slowly flutter open, 

I blink a few times, and that's when I notice, I couldn't move my legs, 

I couldn't feel my legs, 

The beeping increased, 

I started panicking, 

I felt something around my neck, I tried to take it off, but a hand stopped me, 

"Leave it," I hear, 

I see Bucky, 

My breathing increased, I couldn't breath, 

"Why can't I move my legs?" I said looking at him in fear, 

He looked at Steve then at me, 

"Bucky why can't I move my legs," I said feeling tears well up in my eyes,
